I know there a 2 separate threads on the subject, but they aren't listed under the National SHO Club.
There are also lots of rumors swirling around (Facebook, etc...) as to the fate of this convention.
We are less than a 100 days away! Boy does time fly by.
I will keep my finger crossed that this isn't the end.
If that's the case, it sure was a lot of fun over the years.

I seriously hope all the ranting and rumors are false, I really wanted to go to my first SHO convention this year. Also the Syclone and Typhoon Nationals ( equivalent to SHO convention ) isn't lokking so hot either, there are a lot of rumors swarming around that too. I would love to go to both but if one or both is cancelled, I will pretty sad about it.

C'mon Brian, stay positive! I guess if we knew better what the roadblocks/hurdles are to having this convention in production, we could maybe help address them.

As of right now it's the track. Unfortunately there is only one track in the middle Tennessee area and that is the Corvette Museum track. The prices for the track had been discussed before last year's convention and it was thought that one of the options would work. There are 3 different track options that can be used at the Corvette Museum track but I have to assume that all three options are too expensive for Kirk to sign a contract based on last years showing. Outside of the track I don't see any other hurdle. I had hotel prices set back in November. I've got several restaurant and tour options set up for the week ready to go. This could be an awesome convention with or without a track day but I know the track day is the highlight for many of the attendees so I don't see the convention happening without it.

I think if it comes down to it, we can do without the track this time around. If people want to pay the price for the track tho, and put down a deposit, would that work?

Unfortunately, with every day that passes, and no official news is announced....

It looks more and more bleak.

The fact is, had information already been announced, and things like registration forms, hotels, schedule of daily events etc. been posted, say back in the beginning of January..... interest (& more importantly deposits) could have taken place and then promoting the event could have occurred since then.....

But here we are, nearly middle of April and yet nothing.

I hate to be a pessimist, but certainly isn't looking all that positive as of today.

Hopefully my gut instinct is incorrect, but man..... idk. Here's to more encouraging news rather than just mere rumours, speculation, etc.

Fingers crossed.

"based on last years showing" bah, you can't sell what you don't promote...again.
Go ahead, try to get a head count to set things up, I felt your pain Chad.
Blackhawk was like $7,000, = 35 cars at $200.
My thoughts on upcoming gatherings.

I think using a whole week long vacation is a lot to ask of newer members, it's a lot to ask of me right now.
I think there's 10 people I can name from last year who have to submit vacation time by Jan 1.
I think anyone joining us and sharing track day mid week is impossible.
I think interest in track has declined due to age of original car and new car is just not tracked often. **** over half the cars were not SHO's last year. I don't think we care what car's are on track anyway, (Canadian rentals welcome) it's the friends and people.

1. Is it time to start the party on Thursday night-ish for locals into Friday, Car show Saturday morning, drags afternoon into night, road course with other clubs on Sunday, party Sunday night, drive home Monday?
2. Is it time to speak with our own Forum member Mark Pfeffer who runs MVPtracktime (who a few of us have run with and is an all around cool guy) to try to help us align the stars? (weekend)
3. Is it time to speak with Jason Kennedy too and team up for Mid Ohio or others? (weekend)
4. Is it time to team up with other ford clubs, like others heading to Carlisle? (screw them were better lol) Or do Carlisle and find the closest track for that Sunday?
5. Is it time to meet at the same place every year like Subapalooza or what ever it is in St. Louis? (boring, stand around and talk about your pink wheels)
6. Is it time to go every other year? (meh, we're not that old)
7. Is it time to search the Forum for anyone who ever said they would attend but never has, hunt them down like the dog they are, and have it at their house?

I vote using #1 and #2 and #3 in the future or for a test in 2017, but as everything is now, that's up to Kirk.

Yep! That is a big problem and has been for a long while and obviously the longer it takes to get even the basic info out, less people are going to be able to make it and even less will even know about it.

Something like #1 might be best these days, some formula of the track being on a Sat or Sun. Sure would have been nice to at least have some Hotel info by now. Something that should have happened one way or the other by at least a month ago if this thing was still being expected to take place in some capacity or another in Nashville area, especially if you had it figured out 3 months ago. Is the deal you had still even good anymore? If so I can't imagine them holding it for much longer being as this is a high travel and tourist area and no reservations are being made at all. If not, how likely is it to get anyplace that would work this late in the game?

Regardless, I'm showing up in Nashville with a half baked car and I'm going to run into something. Be a part of it, or be apart from it. See you in Tennessee!!
So we're clear, everything I said refers to AFTER Nashville. I hope all of Chads planning works out. I hope there's 150 cars!!
I'll do what I can to go and when I don't it's because I started a new gig last fall and I've got a full plate. Had Easter and 2 other Sundays off in last 12 weeks, one was to sleep all day sick and the other was for Andy's 60th b day party recovery last weekend. Luke and I talked last July no matter what we would at least drive down together on Tuesday afternoon after work, worst case scenario.
Things change, life/work gets in the way sometimes so I can't send in my registration form right now.

I was specifically told by Kirk not to post any information about anything until he gave me the ok. As far as the hotel, I highly doubt what I had worked out is still available.

That's what I figured, so even if the track thing was straightened out today and a go we'd/you'd probably be screwed with getting the Hotel situation squared away.
looking pretty bleak.

Last year, my original hotel changed, my original track changed, my original schedule changed, my original Bus company changed twice, I locked in the band at Christmas so that never changed, $hit happens.

I'm reserving "SHOcago Southside 2020, It's probable you wont be killed"
I'm thinkin a Fall meet after tourist season, Ryan Pasch is the host, (shhh he doesn't know) Tony provides protection, Steve provides local brew pubs, ands it's at a campground cuz we all stick anyway.
Wait, Paul has a big back yard........

Can we just go ahead and change it to St. Louis? I've got the Banquet Center set up $20/person including booze, I've got a place for the car show(local park/historic site), I'm waiting for the hotel to get back to me(should be tomorrow) expect $100-120/night, and there's a track day org running an event at Gateway that weekend. Last year the price was $300/weekend.

The convention will be in Nashville. The dates planned are still the third week in July. NCM park has not been ruled out but other options are being considered. There is a 1/4 mile drag near Nashville and it is being planned as well.

It really sucks that its taken this long but its still a learning experience for Kirk. When he took over the duties of planning the conventions Don and Ken completely stepped out of the picture. Everything has to be done from scratch for him and the costs associated are his to shoulder. Once the kinks have been worked out from doing a few conventions the process will become easier. The plan was to have everything ready to go last fall but life got in the way. Hopefully shit will be ready to go soon and im confident it will be fun no matter what.

More to come....
