Michelle has a Sticky thread for the Convention, but here;'s a few more recent updates that I sent to the Membership:
We are in for a great Convention! The schedule of events is basically set! Details for renewing and signing up are at our website: https://www.shoclubofamerica.com/
The Convention info is at the 2025 Convention link: https://www.shoclubofamerica.com/2025-convention
The Host Hotel is the Holiday Inn Knoxville West. We got a rate of $119. Which also includes a full breakfast each day. See the website for the Group Code.
We are not doing a Dragstrip, nor an HPDE Track Day this year, but rather am full day on the Tail of the Dragon , and other roads. There is a new K1 Karting center in Knoxville, and we also have our usual Car SHOw, and other events. See the Convention Website above for details.
K1 Karting at the new Knoxville Location
https://www.k1speed.com/knoxville-location.html
As in the past, we will be doing Run Groups based on the number of participants, and we group by weight.
If there are any children running, they must be at least 48” tall, up to 57” Children run in their own group in the Youth karts.
The cost of the event is $70, which includes the mandatory Annual License (described in the website above). The cost is the same for either Adult or Youth drivers.
Tail of the Dragon Driving Event
We will be doing a scenic drive tour of the Tail of the Dragon, the Cherohala Skyway, and other similar roads. Tail of the Dragon alone is 318 curves in 11 miles!
We have signed up with Smoky Mountain Drives, (https://www.smokymountaindrives.com/) , to set up a Group Tour for us. Be sure to check out their website!
We will start & end at the 129 Hub (https://www.129hub.com/ ) where they will have a parking area for us. They will provide loaner walkie-talkies, printed maps and downloadable maps. There is virtually no cell service in the area!
We are planning on two groups: One for those who want a leisurely drive, and the other for those who want a more spirited experience.
We will do approximately 200 miles, with stops for gas, lunch and photos along the way. Lunch stop is planned at: https://ironworksgrille.godaddysites.com
It will be from 9:00AM until approximately 3:00 PM. If you wish, you can drop out of the trip at any time.
The cost of the Event is $40 per car.
Luke Gagainis pointed us toward Josh at Smoky Mountain Drives, as he has done the Tail with them before, and feels that they do an excellent job! Here’s a couple of Vinwiki episodes with Josh of Smoky Mountain Drives. Worth a watch!
How I became the Tail of the Dragon tour guide...
YOU NEED to watch this before driving Tail of the Dragon!
Then the Awards Banquet, at the Host Hotel, on Thursday night. With Door Prizes, Awards, the Silent Auction and dinner with Cash Bar.
As usual the Parking Lot Shenanigans every night at the hotel.
I really hope that all of you can attend, it should be a great event!
