Hi,

I joined this forum a while ago when I bought my SHO but haven't been active for a while. I have two problems one is the waterpump the other is the transmission. My SHO has 150k and I'm almost certain the transmission has never been serviced. I changed the fluid several times but resolved that the transmission needs to be rebuilt. I also changed the ignition coils and sparkplugs. I plan to drop the whole subframe out of the car as it would make the waterpump and transmission job much easier. But then I started looking at the waterpump/timing chain parts which was like somewhere around $500 for everything and a rebuilt transmission the cheapest of which I could find was $2200. I decided to just get a lower miles car that had been wrecked.

I found a salvage 2013 SHO with 86k and I am having it inspected to make sure the transmission fluid is at least pink before I buy it I already know it runs and drives. It has a salvage title and the whole front clip is smashed off so I have asked them to look at the subframe and see if there is any damage to it.

I am getting the alldata factory disassembly procedure for both cars to verify that they are compatible and my plan is to remove the 13 subframe and install it in the 12. I may also transplant the PTU and RDU as well. Does anyone know of any reason why this wont work? I don't think they made any significant changes to the engine or trans from 12 to 13.

I am also looking at few other model years and if anyone knew of any problems I may have with trying to transplant from a 14-17 model year car I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

I just put a new old stock trans in my 11 sho. Theres a salvage yard in LA that has transmissions with about 100 miles on them that were removed from a large lot of cars. This guy buys 100 or so powertrains from Ford or dealers at a time. They come with torque converter. I did the valve body seperator plate update on my old unit and then the TC started slipping at 145k. I also put in a new ptu while I was in there and 2 new turbos. Village Ford parts in MI sells ptu for $520 and turbos for $420 with a $250 core charge. The trans didnt require any programming by the way.

My understanding is that there were motor changes in the 15 model year.

I think freight from CA to CT might make that a little more expensive than its worth but thanks for the info I will go look at it and see what the quote is. Truthfully I kind of want the wheels and a few other things off the 13 SHO too but if that turns out to be too expensive(auction) I might go this route. I would also a lower mileage engine out of the deal too.

I paid 750 for the trans with free shipping. I sent them a check direct instead of doing the deal on ebay.

I really appreciate the info and your certain there is no difference between the SHO AWD transmission and the regular AWD transmission? I bid on a 2013 SHO and the auction ends this morning if I dont win it for the minimal amount of money I put down I will probably just get one of these shipped and do the waterpump/timing chain on my car.

The regular Taurus uses a 6F50, the SHO uses a 6F55 transmission. Not the same.

I don't see anyone above saying it but the PTU will be different if using a 2013+ PP car and you need the rad/cooler and lines for that as well, not sure if anything else different like AC lines to cooler that the trans cooler runs through, etc...

In 2010-12 applications, you could probably just plug the coolant lines and the ptu temp sensor plug if you did not want to use it. Not sure if it affects anything clearancewise to use a Gen 5 PP PTU unit on a Gen 4. Gen 4 had no cooling or temp sensing in the design.

Thanks for the clarification on that I decided to go on the safe side and I ordered a used exact model number replacement AA5P-7000-DD for my car so I shouldn't have any problem doing the install. Apparently there were a few different model numbers that year. I'm not certain that there would be any difference between them but this way there wont be. Its coming out of a 2012 Lincoln with 80k so as long as I keep up on the maintenance it'll probably last as long as I keep the car. After work every day now I'm working to drop my subframe so that I can replace the timing chain/waterpump at the same time as the transmission swap.

When searching for parts on dealer sites, search by VIN to get the best/exact match to your vehicle. If simply looking at parts, you are looking at a combination of 6f50, 6f55, FWD, AWD in the mix. At least 3 different possible transmissions, plus more possibly if there were midyear changes.

I would recommend verifying your flywheel and new torque converter have the same bolt pattern. On my 2011 I had to swap from 4 to 3 bolt pattern (I had to swap flywheels to match TC).

My flywheel is 3 bolt pattern like the one I ordered because it is Model Number: AA5P-7000-DD which I pulled from my transmission and ordered an exact replacement. I lowered the subframe or really I raised the car off the subframe yesterday and I will start working on replacing the timing chain/water pump tonight. After that is finished I will remove the old transmission and install the used replacement I have coming on Wednesday. Very excited to get this car back on the road.

Chains tensioners guides and solenoids?
I bought a kit from Rockauto with all that stuff except for the solenoids. I guess I was kind of kicking around the idea of replacing those, have you ever heard of them failing? I also don't have the sprocket for the VVT solenoid either I was going to look at mine before making a determination on whether or not to replace it.

There have been no issues with the sprockets, but there is always an exception. The solenoids are a must. If repair kits were available for the solenoids (springs and screens), you could have done that, but it isn't an option AFAIK.
