Thats crazy ass bad luck if out of nowhere both turbos stopped making boost. Just to perfect

My pipes are worse and i have 20k miles on the turbos. My car dont burn oil but you can see how much comes out when revingRight? The car is 11 years old. It's gonna be a bit dirty under the engine
It dont got stripes no more. I pulled them off before they would mess up the paintThat thing sounds MEAN. Love the racing stripes too
Has anyone done a leak test with a smoke machine? If the turbos are working but the motor is not getting boost, there should be a lot of smoke leaking that would be easy to find.Update: I'm about done with these "mechanics". 2nd guy noted that there is black smoke coming from exhaust because theirs "oil" in it. (First off I haven't noticed smoke in any quantity thats remotely alarming).
OFC Recommending the turbos be replaced.
Black smoke usually means you're running rich. HMMMMMM Wonder what a turbocharged engine with low boost would be running...
Anyway I'm gonna talk to the guy when he calls and see what he actually did. He said he couldn't find a boost leak, but we'll see if anything was actually done to check.
There does seem to be an actual leak from the oil return line, so at least he found something interesting
Nope, these mechanics see oil and want to throw a new part at it.Has anyone done a leak test with a smoke machine? If the turbos are working but the motor is not getting boost, there should be a lot of smoke leaking that would be easy to find.
Not sure how much work you like to do yourself but, a smoke machine is $80-150 on Amazon. Most shops labor rate is in the same ballpark. Buy the machine and you have the tool when you are done or sell it on Marketplace/eBay.Nope, these mechanics see oil and want to throw a new part at it.
Maybe I'll just go down to the local vape shop and have them blow into the intake for free
Bad hose to the wastegate should cause overboost because it would not get the "boosted" air necessary to open the wastegate. Now if the C-clip comes off the end of the rod the wastegate could flap open freely if the rod detaches from the wastegate lever. There would be no preload from the wastegate canister to keep it closed.Might do that. I'm planning on checking the wategates later today for missing clips, bad hoses, and actuation. I bought a hand pump vacuum/pressure tester thar should be here later today
I attached my vacuum / boost gauge to the line leading to the wastegates from the boost solenoid. As I applied pressure I could see the rods moving on both from above with a flashlight. To see the c-clips you would have to be under the car.How do yall get access to the wastegates? I can barely see the shaft on the front one. Remove exhaust manifold cover?
It's becoming clear I'll have to go under to inspect the rear turbo in any way.
Also, why does the rear turbo have 2 bovs before it reaches the intercooler but the front turbo doesn't have any?
I can't see my rear turbo actuator at all, guess I'll have to look harderI attached my vacuum / boost gauge to the line leading to the wastegates from the boost solenoid.
