I’ve had my SHO for quite some time now but have never added anything to it except for visual enhancements. I do all of my own maintenance and am fairly new to modding. I was looking at getting a tune and exhaust cutouts, CAI, sway bars. I just want to push my car past that 5.7 0-60 mark and make her the ultimate sleeper. I’m not sure where to start or what to buy. Id appreciate any suggestions for somewhat beginner to intermediate modifications to speed the car up.

What tune would you suggest?
Tunes are a HUGE ROI for you. Remote tuning from Ortiz - a sponsor of this forums is good. There is Gearhead and Livernois as well as others. The number one issue - and you dont sound like you have violated your cats, is the use of off road exhaust - straight pipes - cattless - if you keep your catalytic converters the world is your oyster.

The vendors will take a remote baseline of your stock programming, then load a base tune - have you log your performance ask questions about full throttle - daily driving. They will also have you fill out a list of mods that they need to special tune for. Many say you can get 50-100 WHP from tuning.

I have a different post - but still informative in this forum for cattless tuning. Should be an informative read.

Bottom line - the performance enhancing mods - 170 degree thermostat - helps keep engine cooler, and intercooler cooler to reduce heat soak of stock intercooler. (Good luck with that) replace to performance plugs that run cooler if you are going to be pushing the cars limits, CAI - if you pick one with some performance benefits like This One. (Install Video) Big ROI is a 3 Bar MAP, to get higher boost pressures. This part change REQUIRES tuning.

Getting a stock performance tune is hugely important - even if you do NOT do any upgrades - a good tuner can squeeze your boost and gas efficiency using 93 octane.

Good luck.

A good tune will put you in the 4.xx 0-60 easy. Mine will go 0-60 in the upper 3.xx but I fell too far down the rabbit hole.

I thought straight piping or cutouts gave you performance gains? Is that not the case with the Taurus?

I’ll definitely look into the tunes first. I appreciate that bit of info.

The tune alone (device, 3 bar MAP, cooler plugs) is by far the best start. Once you start adding things like exhaust, CAI… you will (should) get revisions to the tune as you go. Depending on your tuner you may have to pay along the way for each revision.

Just something to keep in mind.

Turbos need to breathe - so yes cutting out your cats will give you more HP quickly - however a TUNE should/would be required. With all newer cars - all changes affect how the computers see those changes.
