#1 Rod bearings! Change yesterday.

#2. Use a 3/8 socket extension to get out.

i did rod bearings last week

Was the oil light doing the same thing before you did the rod bearings? With these cars it's almost never a case of low idle, something is usually wrong with the rod bearings, OP sending unit as mentioned, oil pump pickup as mentioned, oil level, etc.

When you did the rod bearings, was it just preventive maintenance, or were the old ones making noise already? Did you check the crank journals to make sure they weren't scored?

That fill plug can be a ***** if it's never been out. Soak it with some penetrant for a couple days and it should come out eventually.

yeah i did it cause people said to do it as preventive they didnt even look that bad. and i did change the oil pickup tube gasket so im sure its the sending unit. it only does it once the car warms up. so one buddy mentioned that my oil might be to thin cause i used a thinner oil then ussal. what should i use? 10w 30 or 10w 40? or what

Back in Michigan ... again.
And yet another case of "preventative" rod bearing replacement leading to an unnecessary failure. This is why I've been preaching against the rod bearing hysteria. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. FWIW, I'm sorry you were given bad advice.

Hopefully the low oil pressure hasn't damaged the crank, but I absolutely would not drive that thing until you can get it back apart and get things checked out.

You did use some assembly **** on the bearings when you installed them, yes?

My 95 MTX did the same thing with only 44k actual miles. I did a simple oil and filter change and that was the last of that. 5Qts of 5w30 Mobil1 and a Motorcraft oil filter (FL400S) The car now has 86K miles, and still no issues.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you are supposed to run the engine with seafoam in the oil, for an extended period of time. It thins your oil.

Good luck getting it taken care of.

ok so lets say its not rod bearings. whateles could it be? just throw some more ideas out there

Oil pressure sender , or its the sender or its a poor connection to it. 5$ part.

What would I do before calling the big stuff , do the small stuff.

Change your oil with some 10-w30 castrol GTX or other dino oil , change your pressure sender and see what happens.

What oil DID you use?

I want to know as well; the answer should be either 5W-30 or 10W-30. And by your last post I don't think it's 10W-30.

On a side note: has anybody else noticed a fairly sizable up-tick in the number of active duty military folks here? I've seen at least 3 new AD folks here in the last month... not bad, just interesting!

How hard is it to change the rods bearings in the car? Is there a stickey on this? What has to come off to to remove the oil pan? Should one change the main bearings also at the same time?

I hope that takes care of the problem!

I'd still be watching VERY closely for the next few weeks, and I'd baby the **** out of that motor until you're sure everything is okay.

Did you reset the idle after you did the rod bearings? Sounds to me like you didn't. There is a sticky somewhere on how to do it. It involves letting the car run with no accessories on, then turning them all on. Sounds like it might have reset.

From what I know, it doesn't change the viscosity of the oil. The reason you don't want to run it for an extended period of time is because of all the junk that will be in the oil after running it. 10mile max driving with it in there. You don't want to clean up some gunk only to move it to another part of the engine.
