It could very well be time for that new tranny. Mine did the same all in one week: one weekend it's fine. Next weekend I take it to go get it inspected and the mechanic tells me that it's slamming into gear on throttle.
I pickup the car, and it's driveable all the way up the first red light...then it slips out of gear. It is completely random when it will shift back into gear. It was driveable while in gear and at speed, but when you shift ANY gear from neutral (or from a stop)...just wait, throttle a little, wait, wait, wait, then BANG - it pops into gear at some random time.
I got a new tranny rebuilt the following week (138k). Good luck.

I have a 93 sho 3.2 liter Automatic Tranny problems...

So You described exactly what just started with mine, and now its effectting the reverse. At a stop or driving hit catches when it wants, then u have to down shift it, and press the gas a few times and wait....wait.... POP, then it pops back.

My Question is Did u Rebulit that exact Tranny , or was it another tranny in general that you got rebuilt. . And how much am i looking at. $

WHats my chances of going to a pick in pull a snatching up a tranny.

Could anyone tell me of other make and model cars i could grab a tranny from for my 93 sho 3.2 automatic.

Also could a at home first timer pull off the install / and or the rebuild of the tranny.

ANd is there a way to tell if u have a blown head gasket, i have a leak somewhere but not sure where. And it makes a werid noise , was told it could be the the belt or pulley. or bigger could be a blown head gasket.

1. more thing, How hard is it to install a new water pump.

just bought the car three weeks ago. for 800.00 dmv fees are another 850 , was a lien, but i fell in love . well until all this with tranny and now overheating. could it just be a as simple as the thermostat.or am i wishing to much:thankyou:

cause no one will buy it, and junk yards will only give me 150.00 . so im stuck in a rock and a hard place. Should i just take the 600.00 loss. or spend 850.00 dmv, cost of tranny and install etc. and overheating issues. ??? cheapest i could find someone to instal a used motor/tranny taken out and insalled and 6 month warranty, for 1800. unless i can safe this motor.

So u say it might be the N safety switch

I have a code reader ( Blue Point) , but its at my storage and i havent been able to get out to it. nor able to find a replacement book for it, only have the spainsh edition.

So could u tell me where this switch is located, etc. any help is great. I reallly dont want to give this car up . That would be sweet if only a switch. .. What about the linkage or cable that goes to the tranny.. Could that be the problem... ?

ideas on what i should try or do first......

I must say this website. ROCKS. and so do all the sho stoppers out their .

the NSS is located on top of the atx transmission you will see the shift cable going to it.. i dont know if i agree its the issue but would be nice if it was that easy for you.

they really arent serviceable but you can drill the rivets out and install tiny bolts or new rivets possibly.

the leak you speak about im guessing is coolant and my guess is the throttle body heater lines which i would just bypass myself do a search and you will find a ton of info on where they are and how to do it.

you asked about a new water pump and also mentioned you have a funny noise, my guess is they are related... did you check for play in the water pump? how do you know its the water pump?

overheating would be caused by a leak in the coolant for sure, you lose pressure in the system it will overheat, you lose enough coolant it will overheat.

these cars almost never blow headgaskets even under pretty crazy boost.

personally i would make sure to fix the overheating leaking issue first before i did anything else since you dont need a working trans for that plus you dont need a blown motor.

as for what trans you can use your stuck to SHO only normal tauri will die very fast on a SHO engine. id recommend getting a 94-95 atx personally they have a better tq converter and also grab the computer out of the same car since it will help shifting and keep the trans alive longer.

you could also go the route of mtx swap since the trans has to come out its not gonna be much more work, plus the benefit of a much faster car, better fuel mileage and a lot less to go wrong is always nice do a search on that as well to get more info

edit: also do a search how to pull codes, you can do it with a paper clip

Unfortunately mine just started doing this just tonight. Its a shame because I just got this car running again. This seems to be a common problem for these cars. Didnt seem to do this when i parked it but it sat for a year... Mine drives fine until its warm then at a stop it revs high then kicks in when it wants. works fine if starting in second then going to drive. 1st does it and reverse started doing it too. Not trying to steal a thread but im in the same boat. Anyone have any suggestions as to a better transmission for these cars? better to try and rebuild? I'm open to doing a manual transmission swap also if possible but im sure that'd be more expensive. still doing research on it all...

try putting half a bottle of tranny fluid into it and see if it will help. Also, try shifting it manually and ease of gas close to 4000rpm.
If any of these work, especiall the first one, i would look into new tranny or mtx swap.

Thats the only way its working without the high rev and huge kick in after rpms drop to about 1 or 2k. I have to manually use 2nd gear at a stop to get going then shift to drive. Trans fluid is full. I cant find a transmission for this car anywhere. All the scrap yards around here pretty much say good luck. I have only seen 3 other sho's in my area and two are running which they wont part with and the other has body damage that the owner wont part out. Its going to be really tough finding a transmission for this car....i'd much rather do the mtx swap but i have a feeling that'll be even tougher. Thats why i was kind of looking into if there were other availiable options for transmissions.

buy a shift kit for your tranny and then rebuild it. And I think SHO have some regular taurus trannys.
