hi everyone,
i am a new memember here from newton, mass.
i have 2 SHO's
one 1992 3.0 L 5 speed mtx which i been having for almost 2 years and one 1993 3.2 L atx i bought 3 months ago.

i've been experienceing like some kinda of issue these past 2 months and half with my 92 5 speed mtx SHO.

** the problem i am having is with the RPM gauge at the tachometer. i know that the normal way for the motor idle per minute is between 770 rpm- 950 rpm while the car is runing and siting quiet. MY sho stays there most of the time but often its weird because while the car sometimes come to a full stop and sits for like 8 seconds the RPM gauge moves up and down it self goes to 1300 rpm and drops down to almost half way( 500 rpm) or even sometimes has gone to 300 rpm which couple times caused stalling and shuting off the engine.

Please can anyone help me with this , or if anyone experinced or had the same isue before??? can they tell me what steps to follow.
anything it will be really appreciated.

I love my SHO's and i am a proud owner of both of them. I know that people that don't own and dont know anything about them they think that those both are my dadys taurus ;, but in real they aren't cause all the secret for the SHO stands under the hood with the powerful 220 YAMAHA engine.
thanks a million

sincerely
Adi

It sounds like the idle air control (IAC) valve, just to the passenger side of the throttle body, is not operating properly. Check the codes, try the idle speed reset and possibly be prepared to replace the IAC valve if the problem is not corrected. Thes can be purchased at local auto parts stores and the only challenge to replace them is accessing the lower 5mm Allen head bolt.

My SHO and my mustnag had a similar problem with a searching idle like yours. The rpms would go up to about 1200 and then back down to like 500 and search around like that. I put a new TPS in and it cleared the problem right up. Neither of my cars ever stalled b/c of this though so it might not be just a TPS problem. Just a thought. Definately run the codes though.

My Jeep did that, too. I cleaned the IAC and it cleared it right up.
