Hey everybody, I have a 95 ATX with about 150K miles. When I first got the car I decided to take it to the local dragstrip for Midnight Mayhem, and I was the only SHO there. My questio is, with a relatively stock 95 SHO, only mods being an LPM and a WAI and some subs and a pair of struts in the trunk.... what sort of time should I have ran?
As far as I know it had been maintained to that point.

I launched by footbraking it to about 2000 rpm then just standing on it off hte line... is there something different I should have done?

Note this was in the middle of summer and it wasn't exactly cool out... Thanks!

Whats your elevation? Those times are less then impressive for a Stock ATX.

yeah 16.08 makes me think that something else is wrong. Whats the maintenance record like on the car? Next time take the subs and rear seat out to save weight and try again.

The subs and the struts in the trunk are probably hurting you all around (especially launch.) Get that weight out of there and lower your front tire pressure. Hows your suspension in general? Whats a WAI?

Yeah, there's definitely something wrong with your car if you're only running that in the quarter. I have a 1995 atx also with about 77k on it. I ran it at the track when it had about 66k on it. I have lambo doors on it and a custom stereo in the trunk weighing about 800lbs. I have 2 huge amps and 2 subs as well as a whole vinyl enclosure. I ran a 15.9 I believe and can't remember at what mph. Check everything out and see if your maintenance is up to date. I didn't have any mods done to the car either when I went to the track I only removed the silencer and stock air box and added an intake and also added 2 flowmaster 40 mufflers. Now iv'e done a lot more mods, supercharger soon :naughty:

Back in Michigan ... again.
85 MPH trap speed is way under what you should be running. Either that weight is really hurting you or you have some mechanical troubles. What's the condition of your transmission? With an 85 MPH trap you're either not making the HP you should be, your tranny is slipping quite a bit, or you're toting around a bunch of extra weight. Or it could be a combo of all the above.

Yeah, elevation and weather can make a difference, but a healthy MTX at anything under 2000 ft should be well into 15s with a trap speed around 90, even in high heat.

That was my former 95 ATX guys. I maintained it the best I could, changed the oil religiously at 3k, The car had a 60k at about 107k I think, it may be due. The trans shifted just fine for me at the time of sale.

The WAI is due to my oil filter relocation, the battery is in the trunk. I repalced the rear struts before the sale, but not the fronts, those are whats in the trunk.

I never had it to the strip but the engine was in good shape, A LOT more powerful than my A4's.

Chris, how is it holding up for you? I can't seem to find that remote anywhere but I'll give you a few bucks for a new one if you like.

Yeah, it's probably due for another 60K, cause I think I have put about 15K miles on it since I got it.... New struts are great, but now it rides really high, at least I think so... Remote was under the passenger seat, I found it when I detailed the car about 2 weeks ago.

The transmission shifts fine at WOT, it might just be that I suck at drag racing. Although it shouldn't be anything more than braketorque and go, right? Keep in mind Midnight Mayhem is prestage lights then the green when they feel like it, so launches aren't going to be the best.

The car is doing great for me (knock on wood). Here's hoping the transmission holds up till I can afford a rebuild.... or a core and a rebuild kit.

As long as the launch is neither bogging down or going up in smoke, you should be fine. A little chirp for the first few feet would be fine as it gets the car up into the power faster.

Somewhere, you need to find another 5-7 mph. The ATX SHO should pull between a 2.20 to 2.30 in the 60'. This would be reasonable for most with a stock car.

Okay, I found a timeslip.
RT : .730
60' : 2.569
1/8 ET: 10.470
1/8 MPH : 70.17
1/4 ET : 16.185
1/4 MPH : 85.7

I think a good bit of time can be had in the 60 foot area.... any suggestions based on that info?

almost all of illinois is flat and I would elevation to not be that high. But yeah you seem to be lacking on the low end. A 2.5 in an ATX must be something amiss with it and only 85 Trap speed that car is just down on power all around. it can do better. a full 120k may be in order.

that does seem low. like 200hp low. considering some stock g3/4 duratec taurus' which from the factory are heavier get 15.8-16.2. and my vulcan powered taurus traps 80mph in the 1/4mile.. and im 140 motor hp.
