Well my dad and I finally took the car to atco raceway. The weather is perfect at 45 degrees. This is the first time ever and it was a blast for me.
The times I ran were two 15.2'[email protected] and my third one was my best w/ a 14.97 at 97.1 mph. It was my first time so my lauches were not so good. My dad's runs were 1.)14.7@96, 2.)14.42@97 and the best was a 14.34@98 mph. his best 60' was 2.195 in the 14.42 run
#88 btw
Slips will be posted when i find camera thats not on a cell phone

Yea he gave me some tips but i was kinda of nervous but after the first run i wanted to keep running.
He has an unfair advantage: he has been driving this exact car for as long as i have been on this planet (17 years!!!)

Nice runs! Do you have the times for the 1/8 on your dad's runs?

That's awesome. I guess I should look forward to getting back to the track. I trapped 97.5 the only time I had the car to the strip this year. The shifter was all bound up and the tune was aweful from the trans swap. I can't wait for next spring.

Hey all,

Not to come off as condescending or anything, because I certainly offer kudos to your timeslips, but this info leads me to believe I'm missing part of the picture here -

I thought that a stock MTX, perfectly driven, could crack into the high 14's. Now, this car has a lot of mods done to it, and it's hitting low 14's.

So, my question is, I suppose, is that really all the difference one can expect in a 1/4 mile with all that work? Or, is it harder than I've been led to believe to get a stock SHO into 14 second times? Where do my preconceptions need revision?

Any insight would be appreciated...

low 14's is fast.
best mod= driver
SHOs aren't perfect drag cars
there's a lot of variability in benchracing others cars against your own
wouldnt you rather have a car that you love and feels powerful on the road than a car that runs a high 13 but sucks to drive?

good times, lets not muddy up the thread with another drag racing debate.

Yikes!

I tried to word that question very carefully so as not to imply any amount of rudeness, and I still managed to offend someone.

Justin, I don't disagree with any single thing you said right there... didn't in my last post either.

It was just an innocent question; it still hasn't been answered, however, so I guess I'll go ahead and start a new post elsewhere. At the time I thought the author of this thread might have a particular insight with regard to my question... so apologies to anyone who mistook my intentions.

Hijack over. If anyone wants me, I'll be hiding in a corner at General chit-chat.

please don't view my last post as condescending or anything, i was just trying to condense the usual drag racing arguments that happen into one response haha... trying to keep everything on topic, but i've managed now to help sway it off haha oops :thumb:

IMO if you're modifying for drag, you want to modify for torque, and a stiff suspension. if you look at his mod lost, a lot of them help a lot over all, but aren't the best"bang for the buck" when it comes to 1/4 mile.

Your point about the all-around-ness of his mods makes tons of sense; that's exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. I knew there was something I just wasn't catching on to...

And, so we can turn this thread safely back on topic ;) -

BlackonBlack89, that's a very nice car, do keep us posted as you return to the dragstrip!

A stock MTX SHO should turn mid-high 14s. While BlackonBlack's times aren't bad, I think the car might have another couple tenths in it.

I dont think a stock MTX SHO should run mid 14's.That if it is a freak maybe and on top of that has maintence up to-date. I think high 14 to low 15s is more accurate.

But i do agree maybe 14.2 is acheivable but no much more. The 14.34 run was petty much a perfect run.
But when i get the BBB and pp runners i am hoping for 14.1 and maybe ever a super high 13 second run:evilgrin: .
I can't wait

Agreed!!!!

My car is running ALOT harder now that the weather finally dropped.

get that intake taken care of, and you should be 14.2-14.3.

Add a 50shot, and your in the mid 13's... :naughty:

What wheel/tire combo are you running?
