Score it with a dremel, peel it off with a screwdriver and vise grips.

Die grinder + cutting wheel , be really gentle with it just to score it. Then hammer + screwdriver in the score.

Why are you removing/replacing it?

Simply put, because i have a new one. Same reason i replaced the timing belt, water pump, did a valve lash etc. None of them were bad, but while you're in there, why not. I'm really not trying to go back in anytime soon.

This sounds a bit on the scary side. Anyone else? Anyone ever had this problem? Why is it seized there in the first place?

half-way there, I think.

It's not to hard, may seem scary but even if you cut into the aluminum case a little the new sleeve is going to cover it up. It's the easiest way to remove it, trust me. Do not use a torch because you run the risk melting the output shaft seal. When I replace mine, I use a little loctite to ensure it's not going anywhere and I think it's a slight interference fit.

Same here. a dremel with a cut off wheel. don't go too deep.
Before you put the new quill sleve on , use GREEN Loctite.;)
