I thought I would bring my 91 back from the dead this weekend. It has been sidelined with what I am 90% sure is a bad CPS.

So, set one appears to be removed Crank Bolt and I am stuck. I have tried bumping the starter. I dented the 2x6 I was using, but made no change on the bolt. I have a 18" cheater bar, and nothing. Air tools seem to do nothing either.

I soaked it in WD40 last night, and still nothing.

A neighbor came over and said all crank bolts thread backwards, and I have been tightening the bolt (there is a depressing thought). But, that makes no sense, based upon the way I look at the PHX SHO front 60k guide.

Any thoughts? I would hate to farm it out, but am sort of stuck at the moment.

Sometime I wonder why I got another one of these.

Get a battery charger or jump box on to your battery. This should give you enough juice to "bump start" the bolt off.

If this dosen't work, it's time for a big ass impact gun.

Torch the bolt till it is very hot, let it soak the heat into the crank for 5 min., spray the head of the bolt with wd40(or even cold water) to absorb heat, and immediatly remove while the bolt is contracting.

Ok, so apply heat to the bolt, and let it leach into the pulley. But not too much. I wish I had a "too much" guage. It could have saved me thousands over the years. :)

I am charging the battery now as I head off to a BBQ. It was strong enough to start the car, but I guess after sitting a while, it is down some from peak.

If the topped off battery doesn't do it, I will try fire.

i got mine off 2 days ago by removing the battrey box, puting the car in 5th gear, blocking the back wheels, and used a 2ft breaker bar, worked good :D ps the tires need to be on, and the car needs to be on the ground.

The shoulder of the bolt is what rusts to the pulley, keeping it from coming off. If you cut the shoulder off the bolt, then it should come right out. This will obviously require a new bolt.

The bolt is threaded like any other bolt - righty tighty, lefty loosey.

If you wanna cool the bolt down... why not use an ice cube? ;) Sometimes you can hear the rust seperate.. I've had real fun the last few weeks with rusty bolts, and the Ford wrench (Torch) .

Good luck!

4' Breaker bar? I have to go to the tool store.

Get a cheap cheater pipe from Home Depot or Lowes. Look in the plumbing section. They have strong metal pipes with threaded ends that work very well over the end of a wratchet or breaker bar.

Yeah if your battery has enough juice you'll be able to break the socket loose right away with an impact socket and breaker bar wedged in the right place. Just don't try to hold onto the breaker bar while someone cranks the engine because you WILL get hurt. Just feed the breaker bar in place from the underside of the car, rotate the breaker bar clockwise by hand until it bottoms out on the subframe. Then hop in the car and give the starter a good crank with the ignition key.

You obviously haven't seen the video where the old dude decided to step on the drum of a dyno... while it was still running.

And yes, I'm sure more than a few people have decided to hold onto the breaker bar... beers will do that to you.

4 Foot lead pipe? I could bend that thing with my pinky! You need to upgrade to a 4 foot steel pipe :)
