P.S. WHERE the **** are you working on this car? That garage looks bigger then thee biggest shop in town here. Oh em gee if only i had a lift...

IIRC, Ashley and Paul run a buisness working on Semi Trucks and the like. I imagin that had a big part in them creating their first turbo SHO. ;)

be careful man. Tq steer is a PITA

Lookin' good! I'm kickin myself for not getting online sooner in the week to see this was going down this weekend. I can't wait to see this completed, I've been thinking about the future of my '93 and it involves Paul and Ashley :) Johnathan, bring that thing down in September!

Do you guys plan on welding some reinforcement to that part of the unibody? That part is structural in nature.

No we don't. It will be fine with just that little bit that we cut out. Without notching that, we wouldn't have been able to fit that huge turbo in there. The oil return line was hittig the frame rail.

I dont think anyone was really talking "smack" in the general usage of the term. You should have seen TT turbo bob's thread that was smack talk. :nut:

I understand both of your points, getting a little irritated with someone giving some not so positive criticism. I just think its sad that whenever these talks come up, anyone with F/I's first arguement is "Where is your boosted SHO?" "How did you build your turbo sho?"

So not having a turbo sho means that we dont have any knowledge on the matter? I'd love to have a boosted SHO, unfortunately helping to support a father who underwent back surgery is my main priority, a big reason my car is still in parts.

My Point is not everyone is running around blowing smoke saying their going to turbo their SHO and never really will. I dont know if i ever will, so i dont say im gonna, doesn't mean im completely uneducated in the matter.

Sorry guys, maybe i took it the wrong way, but how much money someone has to spend on their car should have no bearing on the matter, I know a guy who knows more about Turbos and anything having to do with them then anyone i will ever know, and he drives a D series 1.5 sohc stock civic.

That said, i think its incredible what you guys do with what you have. No offense to you but i was very surprised when you put down 400whp, thats no small feat, not that i thought it wouldnt make alot of power, but there are alot of higher dollar turbo and SC SHOs out there putting down around the same. its amazing to see these cars go from a mediocre sports sedan to a beast that will hang with or beat most new cars out there.

To sum it up: Keep up the great work! looks great, and your both stand up people(?) Ash and Paul, for offering your know how to locals who share the same enthusiasm as you do in these cars.

P.S. WHERE the **** are you working on this car? That garage looks bigger then thee biggest shop in town here. Oh em gee if only i had a lift...

we understand the criticism, I think that maybe it just came across as a little rude, however, i think we are past that now and all is well. I appreciate your comment though, and yes we have a huge shop that was a ford dealership. it has 14 bays, alignment pit, three lifts, tire changers, exhaust bender, etc. we do semi truck and personal vehicle repair, engine jobs, tires (semi and personal), exhaust, road calls (repair and tires), and everything in between. this is our personal business and during the week paul and i both work here full time. :)

I can see what you mean, however, neither of the turbos we have done before (well actually the three before this) have had any done. there haven't been any problems that we have been able to see or any that we have come across and i don't think that we will in the future, but thanks for throwing that out there, it may be a possibility if it is what he wants to do. :)

Yup, the people that were posting unessasary put downs have stopped and so far all the comments since then have been appropriate. And if someone has had a suggestion or input, they have done it much more tastefully. Thanks everyone. :thankyou:

Great work. After reading this entire thread though, I do understand how you got taped to a pole now. Thanks for clearing that up :thumb:

Keep up the good work!

okay, for the guy that asked about the shop I am going to put some photos giving a little idea of what the shop looks like here (a vague idea...it is raining outside so I don't wanna go out there to take pics). but first:

welding the piping from the intercooler to the turbo
CIMG0592

more welding of the intercooler piping

and for the shop:

not the whole shop or even the body shop we have in back, but just to give you an idea of where we are working.

The only thing I am concerned with would be how it would respond in an impact. It should not present a problem otherwise. Boxing that section up should take car of that though.

BTW, do you guys put a flex-pipe in your DP, or on the catback? With the turbo hard-mounted to the engine, does it have some room to move? I have always used some seriously stiffened mounts, so the engine does not move a lot, but the flex-pipe at the front of the catback helps with any little movement that it does have. If you are not using one, you might consider it.

We are using flex pipe. We don't really see a problem with the cutout in the frame since it is far enough in front of the strut. We consulted our friends at the Ford auto body shop and they said that notching that little bit out wouldn't interfere with the strutural stability of the frame. And if I wrecked I will probably be going fast enough that it isn't going to matter anyways.

yep we did talk to ford first, and they said since it is in front of the struts that will not affect it, you are correct my friend :)
