I don't know if this is new or not, but I just finished and installed my new EATC.

The electronics are from a SHO. The display is from a Crown Vic. The buttons, the fan speed dial, and the display lens are from a Continental.

The Crown Vic EATC will bolt right into the dash, but the illumination was the wrong color, it had a button that was mislabeled too, and the electronics didn't work with a SHO.

I used the Lincoln EATC because it had the correct illumination and the correct buttons for a SHO, but it didn't bolt in without modification. I found that the buttons from the Continental fit right into the Crown Vic display.

Like I said, I don't know if people have been doing this. I just thought it was cool that you can have a modern EATC unit that bolts in as it should without modification to your dash, has the correct button format that won't break, and illuminates the correct color.

The downside is that it took 3 different EATCs to make.

Some of us have been doing it but kudos to you for trying it out and getting it to work. :)

I guess that you figured out that you need to use a 93+ 8 wire ribbon cable donor EATC?

I learned how to switch the displays by resoldering the 2 ribbon cables from the forum.

I just wanted to let people know that buttons, lens, and the fan speed control can be interchanged between the Continental and Crown Vic EATCs. This way the illumination is the same color as the rest of the dash and the buttons will be labeled correctly.

I used to have the display from a Continental, but it was a little too small and it left a gap around the EATC that bugged me. You can see the mounting screws in this picture of what it used to look like.

I know you can use a gen 2 unit in a gen 1, but I think the 89s are different from the rest of the other gen 1s. I couldn't say one way or the other.

Nice Job. I decided to go with the original larger display behind the newer faceplate out of a 97 Gran Marquis.
