LOL. Yup! I finally got some free time. I'm not going with the IPT kit though. I managed to find a set of Gary's old setups that I'm using with the SHOsource front plates. I'm also replacing the GM rear arms with Ingalls (from SHOsoure) and downsizing the RSB from 26mm to 21mm. (No front sway bar) I've hit some snags which is slowing me down though. The fronts are done but I'm at a standstill with the rears. I should weigh the rear setup while it's out of the car. I'm glad that I didn't attempt this project on a weekend during work. What should have taken me half a day is stretching out over a week now. As these cars age, they get more difficult to work on.

A Gen 1 at 2,650 lbs.
(The inner sheet metal on the front doors have been removed since I took this pictures, so subtract another 10 lbs. or so.)
It's a dedicated autocross car (trailered) and probably not street legal. All the "glass" is lexan except the small quarter windows. The bumpers are gone, that's just the fascia on there now.
Still has ABS, mufflers, cats, lights, signals, stock seatblets. So it's "semi" street legal. :laugh_ti:
There's probably another 100 - 150 lbs. of stuff that can be removed. I do have plans to add a cage (75 - 100 lbs.) and various tubular chassis reinforcements. (Tubular subframe, anyone?)
Not a car you'd want to take your date in, unless she likes to autocross.
And the back end is sooo light sometimes it does this

I started on my suspension today, while I was in there I started taking crap out. I have her down 81 lbs. already with more crap to go! SO far I have taken out the back seat, spare tire, tire iron, 12 disc CD changer, tire cover and the spare hold down hickey. I only drive her every once in a while and that's to mess around mostly so I am taking out the ailing speakers and rear seatbelts next. Here are some pics from just this afternoon:
My step dad walked outside while I was weighing the stuff...looked at me and said, "Well, I guess we can just tell you mom it's for gas mileage." Keep in mind this is in no way alot of weight but I am trying to keep it semi comfortable and more wil be coming out.

I was wondering the lowering specs of different suspention set-ups? For instance Eibachs will drop me about 1 inch, and coilovers are about 2 1/2-3 inches. As I understand it from a post earlier in this thread, coilovers can save you about 40-50lbs!!
Now what i'm really wondering is, is there a nice coilover set-up that would drop the weight, but only lower about 1 inch? Or do all the coilover set-ups for the SHO normally lower you that much? Anything lower than 1 inch is just kinda impractical for me and I will just go with the Eibach/Koni set-up if there are no coilovers that fit that criteria. Thanks

As someone responded, the coilovers are adjustable and you can specify your own spring lengths and needs. That's one of the great things about them. You can run as high or as low as you want (within reason).

80 pounds is a lot of weight. Think of it as a perentage. That's ~2.5% of the car. I wish I could pull another 80lbs out of the car. I celebrate a small handfull of wires.

You could remove the clear plastic from the instrument cluster. That's a few grams. Annie suggests that you remove the door handles...
PS- she just suggested filling it with nitrogen instead of air.

i've heard of nitrogen in the tires...
well when i took out my interior on my 93 for cleaning (carpet was a mess, was also planing on dyna mat) i drove it around a little and decided the performance i gained was not worth the comfort i lost. so it put it all back in ( no dyna mat due to no $, maybe when its time to do the stereo). i know allot of you guys may not feel the same way and thats cool, i was just sharing my experience.
btw i dont know how some of you guys can live without ac. 100+ degs in car + leather = no fun. well i guess some of you guys may not get the hot stuff i do.

I am going to take out the speakers and amp rack tonight along with the rear seatbelts/buckles (for weight and to get to the back bolts for strut removal).
