Cruchfield Recommendations for After Market Sub

I have a blown sub, and here is what was recommended.
JL Audio 8W1v2-4
or
MTX Thunder4500 T4508-04

How many watts is the stock sub amp? I am leaning towrds the MTX only because I think the stock amp may underpower the JL.

I will not upgrade the rest of the system, I am fine with spending just the 100 bucks for a woofer.

Thoughts?

do alittle searching, i've seen it on here before, but i'm thinking about 35, but that could be the premium sound amp too

I think the stock amp is 80-85 RMS

I'm pretty sure it's 75WRMS. Now, keep in mind, this is for a 6 ohm sub. Multiply by about 1.4 for a 4 ohm sub, so 100-105WRMS. Why JBL went with a 6 ohm sub is beyond me, but there you have it. The stock amp is not very clean, though... especially after 13-17 years.

I thought the sub was 4 ohm?

The sub amp's puttin out 60wrms@6ohms IIRC.



You'd be better off with an old JL 6w0. Low power handling and drops right in. I've got one in a ported and baffled stock enclosure that sounds pretty damn good with the stock premium sound amp and using the Pioneer Head Unit crossovers for the rear channels...
