Anyone have any recommendations for speakers in a 89. Don't even know if the amp still works or not. Can a aftermarket head unit work with the stock amp? Are they any good? Any other recommendations?

I don't see a sub woofer in the rear deck either. I thought these came standard with them.

I forget the oem setup for the early ones. I had a '90 a long time ago but I forget if it had a free air sub or not. I know mine didn't come with the sealed enclosure.
For most of my GenI/II cars I just ran a new head unit, amp and speakers. The rear deck can accommodate almost anything without alot of extra work. You can try just a head unit and speakers and add an amp later if you don't want to spend a ton. Anything half decent that will handle the power you send to it will work fine. You can get as fancy as you can justify spending. I forget if you can send an amplified signal to the oem amps. I always removed the factory stuff to make room.

I always bypassed the factory amp and used the amp with the new head unit. The factory stuff is 25-30 years old now, so its likely needing to be replaced. iirc, the door speakers are 5 1/4" round and the rear deck are 6x9".
