Got the car running yesterday with a good used CPS and water pump (thanks Chris K for the help).

Lookie what we found for a custom mod.

THe previous owner had his compressor sieze (the car has about 240k miles). Rather than replace the compressor, he did an A/C delete without the "delete". To give enough clearance for the re-routed alternator belt, he ground a rather large flat spot on the A/C pully. Yes, you heard right, he ground the A/C pully flat to clear the belt.

It does ad character to the car, so I will probably keep it for the race. It will get a new belt though.

But a complete A/C delete is a bunch of weight savings. A gutted compressor housing weighs nearly nothing.

+1 remove the front sway bar for further weight savings  it will make the car errr more interesting in the corners

good luck with the race and I hope you get some play from car and driver as well.

are you going to swap the 19gal fuel tank in for greater range?

Sure that it only has 240k miles? That seat looks like it has about 540kmiles.

Good luck!

The car was owned by a local club member. It has Konis, SFC, and a rear STB. He really did love his car ... But the seat just did not hold up.

Funny thing is the advertizement for the car. He said all the good things about the car, commented on peeling clear coat, and said the front seats were rough quote "It looks like wolverienes mated in the front seat". Two years of a leaking sunroof and an old sheepskin seat cover added to the "Wolverine Love" to make the car absolutely uninhabitable.

From that day forward, we called the car the "Wolverine Car"

For this race we have a new theme to replace the "Wolverine". The car is now gutted, and will be caged this weekend most likely.

More pictures and updates to come.

Not having a crew of professional drivers, we were planning to swap drivers every hour, so the stock tank should work fine.

Some of the guys that did the 25 at THill (in a Miata, though) were getting about 1:15 per stint, which apparently worked well with their tank capacity.

do you think a SHO running balls out will last a hour on one tank of gas? oh man this would be great fun. I am all excited and i'm not even involved. How many tires will you go through?

Don't know how many tires. I am thinking about 180 gal of fuel (it is not 24 hours long despite the name).

We are still looking for sponsors and donations if anyone is interested. I tried to see if Ford Racing would help out, but did not get a returned call or email :shakehead

We can only spend $500 on the car, but entry fees are over $1200, plus gas, plus tires, plus cage, plus brakes, plus hotels, plus safety equipment. This $500 car gets expensive quickly.

Time to go beg on an onramp.

If it has the 18gal tank, which is likely, it should get a lot more than an hour on a tank. With my silver car I'd drive an hour to a track event, run 80-90minutes worth of sessions, and drive an hour home on a single tank with no problem.

oh that is true. I ran 6 or 7 sessions at gingerman in 06. I didn't think aout that.

if the race isn't really 24 hours how long is it?

do you think you will be able to do the event for less than $4K

So the race is actually only 15 hours with a New Year's party in the middle. Sunday morning could be interesting ....

$4-5k is my imaginary mental target (imaginary since we don't have the money now).

I don't want to be the driver in that first Sunday session.

How many drivers are you going to use?

I'd really like to come watch, at least for a little bit. If (I know, "not if, when") you guys make it past the first day, maybe I'll come back for the second. I live about 3 hours away by Google Maps, about 2 by SHO. :D

Should I spend the $40 for a pit pass, or is it free to just come watch? I'd love to be able to mingle with the crew, but I don't know what the rules are in regards to that.
