In my 5 years of being on eBay I have never been able to bid more than the BIN price. I really wish the whole thing would have come off as more legit because I seriously would have driven there immediately to look at it and probably made an offer (if it's the real deal that is).....

Yeah, I'm crazy like that...!!!

It sure does seem like the seller is full of shit..

But it makes me wonder.. Why? why would he waste his time listing a car he doesent own, or doesent want to sell? Makes no sense. He gains nothing.

If you have an auction with a Buy It Now and a reserve, once the reserve is hit, the BIN dissapears.

So if it had a 15k BIN, and say, a 10k reserve, and someone bids 11k, then the bid is now 11k and the BIN is gone. At that point, it can get bid up to any amount.

So basically, someone bid less than the BIN, but more than the reserve, and then it got bid upto 19k from there.

I'm just hoping it's all true and that we all get to see some hi-res pics and/or videos of the car. :)

My original reason for getting so heated up and calling the seller a "crook" (albeit in bad taste as some of you felt) is I felt it would have been easy to get a buyer in a tizzy over this awesome car and get them to submit a winning bid. Then as per the terms quoted the buyer ponies up the required $1000 deposit via paypal or some other means. From that point if the deal is bogus, how does the buyer get his deposit back? With threads on at least two Taurus forums going simoultaneously no one ever heard jack from this guy when several reasonable requests to authenticate his claims were made. I've personally had an online scammer send me $9000 worth of very legit looking U.S. postal money orders for a 95 Gen II I was selling on ebay a couple years ago. Had I complied with his shipping instructions, I'd be less one SHO and no money to show for it right now. Instead, I'd read about deals like this and presented the money orders to the manager of a post office who then told me they were as fake as could be and that this sort of thing happens all the time. No, I don't work for the gov't as a fraud investigator but with all the dishonest stuff people try to pull today I don't put anything past anyone. My original intent was to look out for the people on this forum that seemed so convinced that this was the real deal but I took it too personally and allowed my feelings to overcome me and made a hasty accusation. We still don't know for sure if this was a scam or not but the evidence to suggest that is sure starting to stack pretty deep. I am waiting for the exciting conclusion.

Only the best.

Duane.

Yeah but the BIN price is still listed which leads me to believe that there weren't any bids on it. If you take a look at the offer history, it's all over the place but the only one that came close to the BIN price was way over at 19K.

Ah, I see. I am not sure how it works when it also has the Best Offer option. Would seem kind of stupid to offer someone 19k when you could hit the BIN button for 15k.

Now I might be missing something here but the listing was NOT an auction format, it was a purchase format.....

An auction format is to where you bid or you can hit the BIN, if/when the reserve price is met the BIN usually goes away. I have seen it to where the BIN does not go away but don't know why or how you can do that. That's partially because I never use the auction format.....

The format I use is the other one, to where you can hit the BIN or make an offer. It weeds out a lot of 'tire kickers' and gets right to the point if you're really looking to sell something. With this format you also CAN NOT make an offer higher than the BIN price, if you do it will tell you to just hit the BIN.....

That's the way I see it, and if I'm missing something let me know.....

You can offer more than the buy it now, and I think he possibly did that to get around having money tied up in ebay and paypal, because they'll freeze the funds for large transactions, and we all know how ebay and paypal are ****** about refunding money...a bank in itself will sue the **** out of the guy if it is a scam

the only other images of it I've seen were taken by an iphone that had mirrored everything, but the license plate is the new style michigan plate....just with everything backwards on it. I am going to think its legit at this point, and I believe the buyer said he would be having molds of the body kit made.

There have been times in the past when my max bid was the same price as the BIN (it was the highest I was willing to pay but I knew I might be able to get it cheaper so I didn't want to commit). Ebay would always recommend using the BIN feature but I was always able to click continue to place my bid. I don't know how it works with the best offer function but apparently one can offer more than the BIN price. This auction has proven that.

Change of heart??
No, not at all. I thought it seemed fishy from the beginning, but I wouldn't presume to call the seller any names or make any assumptions one way or the other without doing further research (which I had no interest in doing as I had no interest in the car); and certainly wouldn't have played eBay Cop talking trash to the seller.

Again, as I said, it was an interesting conversation for a week.

Interesting wasn't the word! Hopefully who ever bought the car will want to share pics of his new ride so we can all see how it looks now and not how it looked 8+ years ago. It also sux that the body kit on the previous threads is a scam. Perhaps the new owner of the "RAGE" may allow someone to use it as a template for real thing. :thumb: That would be sweet!

I hear ya. On the bright side at least you've stopped your name calling too. :)

Let it go please.

Personally, I'm curious to see more pictures of the car. I've always loved the look of that car. But I'm totally perplexed as to why someone would pay more than the BIN price. That just doesn't make sense at all. But hey, it's not my money so it doesn't really matter.
