You know the rubber stopper on top of the foot e-brake that cushions it against the stopping bracket (with the brake light switch) when you release the e-brake?
My rubber stopper "devolved" into some disgusting primordial black tar dripping goo.
It is the messiest crud ever, almost impossible to get off anything. It makes anything it touches dark black. It looks like concentrated evil!! :omg:
I checked my other SHO, and the stopper is fine. It pretty soft, but it's not running off like tar.
Has this happened to anyone else? How hard is it to remove the e-brake bracket? Looks like this rubber stopper is riveted onto the lever, so I'll have to grind it out, get one from the junk yard, and use a bolt and nut to attach it back on...

Yes, sadly had the same thing happen on a 100 degree day. It basically melted and then went on the carpet. Nothing would get it out so I had to carefully cut it out of the carpet. :(

Yes I have experienced the 'Oozing Black Goo Syndrome' ! It has dripped on the carpet & the mat & has got on my shoe! Laquer thinner was the product I used to clean it up & off. It worked well! 3 bolts & 2 cables to remove assy but the upper bolt can be a PIA! drop the fuse holder down & use a long extension. I swapped in an ATX 'E'brake assy as its what I had. I then hooked up a vacume line to it so now my 'E'brake releases as soon as I start the motor. Mostly convenient, a few times not.

I had this happen to my daily driver '89 on the way back from the Indianapolis convention.

The damn e-brake light kept flickering as we are hauling tail down the interstate.... so Id pull the ebrake up with my foot a bit. Then it would flicker again..... so I kicked it a few more times.

Next thing I know I have this nasty mess not only on my shoe.... but my nice clean carpet. And the e-brake light wouldnt go out :hpoop:

Those shoes are long gone.... but the stain on my caret remains.

Yeah, I've been noticing this in the Gen 1's and 2's... it seems that whatever rubber they used was improperly cured, and it devulcanizing. It's friggin disgusting.

i failed inspection cuz i had no rubber boot :) you could take it off like my car, but then its not good if your foots wet or something in an emergency.

Yeah, not the boot.

We are talking about the rubber pad that cushions the e-brake pedal when it is released. It also depresses the switch that turns the e-brake light off.
