I was quoted $5999.99 For Water Pump and Timing Chain parts and labor. Car Craft Athens Georgia. Is this high? Not knowing anything about it yet it seems very high to me. Any advice? What is a reasonable quote?

Got a good buddy at Akin ford in winder GA I’m a Monroe guy myself but live in Vegas. If u take it too ford it will be high (roughly 2k-4k depending on which place u go to) but I’m sure he would do it for way less and he’s an ASE ford Tech. His name is Johnathan spikes. Lmk I’ll send you his number. I just did this job myself on mine it was about 1k for everything so keep that in mind. Water pump, chain, phaser chains, phasers them selves, timing chain guides and tensioner, belt tensioner(ours tend to break or widen out over time, fluids (oil and coolant)
RTV for timing cover, it requires use of a special cam holding tool, I did the oil pump and pick up tube as well, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, intake plenum gasket. I think that’s everything but I was quoted crazy prices which led me to do the job myself. It’s not to hard just time consuming. I believe it calls for 11 hrs without doing the oil pump with the few extras I believe it called for 13 hrs labor.

Only reason I say it fluctuates is when I lived in Tampa FL, Brandon ford wanted $4200 to do my water pump job but then I called my buddy at Akin ford in winder GA and it was $2800ish but the labor rates at each shop were different, called for same time and I had my parts already which Brandon wasn’t happy with and wanted to charge me for their parts. Winder gave zero F’s and would use parts I had ‘if they are correct parts’ as it was put to me when they gave me a quick estimate. Not gonna lie the water pump and PTU jobs are pricy but not to bad to do your self.

Was that for both the water pump and timing chain? Where did you get it done at? Dealer or shop?
That was both the timing chain and the water pump I think the hourly labor rate was 155 an hour 14 hours labor and it was done at a shop not the dealership

One of those jobs where the technician is in so deep you might as well get fresh timing hardware since it all wears out, especially if you believe in Ford's silly 10,000 mile oil change interval on a GDI engine.

I had my water pump changed under warranty by Stamford Ford. While they were in there I had the timing belt, Guide, tensioners, and cover replaced. Parts were about $ 300, labor and other charges $105. Have no idea what the water pump would have cost as a single work order.
