I just went through the absolute bear of a task that is replacing both turbos on my gen 4 (2012 MKS Ecoboost) on jackstands. When I first started the car after priming the oil/coolant lines (cranked w/o fuel or spark for ~10 seconds 3 times), white smoke came out of the exhaust, but after a minute or so at idle dissipated. I took it for a test drive around my neighborhood, gave it some gas, and **** YA I have boost now, but there was smoke coming out of the exhaust and engine bay.
From my not-so-experience, it smells like coolant. I could definitely be wrong though. I looked at the front turbo coolant lines and didn't see any leaks. Smoke seems to be coming from both the front/back turbo/downpipe areas, however I don't see any leaks :/. Wonder if it could be left over penetrant from removal? I used a whole industrial sized can of PB Blaster for the job...

Did you burp the coolant system? There is a proper procedure for getting ALL the air out of the coolant system. Number one issue if you don't burp/bleed all air - it overheats.

There are a ton of videos on YT for proper procedures. Answer that first, coolant smells sort of sweet when steam.

Could be the penetrant you sprayed as well. Did you hook up a programmer and read the DTC's? Forscan? What is the computer telling you?

You use your bare hands on any of the exhaust components? Doesn't take a lot of oil transfer on hot pipe to make a lot of fuss. I'd say if it doesn't dissipate after 10-15 minutes of hot idle then you've got a problem.

Yes. They were quite dirty already on removal though

Just a suggestion I like bouncing over to the Ecoboost forums as well.
