Got some other cool things taking shape. Nearly completed installing my Race Louvers hood louvers. I actually have it mocked up wrong, this should be on the driver side but you get the picture.C6E761ED 8613 4DEF B7E3 65B6019CCA6D3BAE8D1C 843B 4638 9CB5 8903B80A46DACF1588FA 084E 4D47 96E2 02379DB5CC0D
And I added a banner to the garage to get me motivated to keep at it!A5158C22 51AC 414B A02A 492580821468

Where did you get your inspiration from to make all this happen? Did you wake one morning and said "I wanna tune this and that and I'm gonna do it this way". You've done a LOT!

Inspired by Hoonigan $h it! Maybe mine can be the Hoonitaurus. I have never been satisfied with the stock version of any car. Usually it’s a lot easier to make some changes, but with this platform there’s hardly anything you can buy off the shelf to make it your own……so I’ve had to get creative and it’s turning into an art project. I want my car to be a quick drag car while looking like a tuner/jdm/drift/rally car. 656A2054 FA5C 4083 B1F2 3D084F128C6C

This is what I’m doing for alternative turbo options! 8C7D8F0A EC4B 4FF9 A4D5 372E01A850A9

Mirror image (1 standard and 1 reverse rotation) Garrett G25-550 turbos! Internally wastegated w/1bar actuators, vband in and out and .72 A/R! Capable of up to 1100hp but realistically probably around 900 crank.

Bit the bullet and bought these bad chickens for just over 5k. Which was the end result from talking with Matt Robinson some more about his Gen3R and why I sold them. He said I’d likely max out at 550-600 wheel as no matter how big of a wheel you cram in it, the airflow is restricted to the stock housing. I’ve spent a lot of money on my build since 2020 and at the end of the day, I had to ask myself if it was worth it to be around 550-600….and the answer was quickly no. As much as I did NOT want to spend that much more money…..if I didn’t get the G25-550…all the money I spent wouldn’t feel worth it…if that makes sense. I honestly came to the conclusion that I’d rather blow up my transmission than be underpowered by hybrid turbos. I didn’t blindly pick the G25-550, I was between them, G25-660 and G30-660 but consulted with Matt Pohnan who built my engine and who also hand picked these based on turbo maps, efficiency and what makes sense. Some ppl like to say take turbo maps for a grain of salt bc all engines are different but what better person to recommend a turbo based on your engine than your engine builder?

And so the next fun part is going against the grain and reusing my 2013+ ported and thermal coated exhaust manifolds, by doing some cutting, welding, vbands, whatever. I’ve enlisted the help of a friend who tig welds and he loves connecting A to B. Because I’m using my manifolds I won’t be fully optimizing the new turbos, however it’ll be a ridiculous upgrade from all of the current hybrid turbo options. I’m going to cut and weld and add or remove piping to my downpipes to get them connected. That is why they are mirror image, once attached to the manifolds the hot side will be facing the downpipes like OEM. Physically these turbos are only about 3/4” wider and 1.5” taller than OEM. The cold side will be facing upwards, the 550’s can be rotated 360 degrees, so getting the cold side facing up is no problem. Likewise getting another coupler or adding another few inches of piping will be no problem to reuse almost all of my hot pipes and dual CAI.

And I’ll film the steps and process so no excuses for anyone else wondering about this. Likely look for a “overhaul” of future exhaust manifolds/downpipes/exhaust in the future but for now this will suffice quite nicely.

Love the direction you're going toward. Pushing the envelope every step of the way and going towards uncharted territory. This is the reason I love this car platform & forum in general, the innovation and the whole unknown/ uncharted territory. Keep it up man, always look forward to your updates and can't wait for the day it's rolling out of your garage under it's own power.

That limited slip and possible stage 1 clutch got you looking ahead!
But seriously, these motors built up are extremely capable so WHY NOT! I can't wait to see where this goes.

Man that was a perfect description, when “it’s rolling out of your garage under its own power” is going to be a GREAT day!!

Right! That’s why I just felt underwhelmed with a 550-600 limit on this. I’d rather accomplish that on a low boost tune and know I can turn it up. The additional power capabilities has me starting to put weight back in my car. Definitely going to have my driver and passenger side door cards put back on, and keep my exhaust on the car. Maybe a speaker or two but honesty in that car, bc of how much maintenance I do and how frequently I check everything, I can’t hear much with the Radio turned up. I enjoy listening to the engine and exhaust when I’m driving it and too many times I have preferred no music to hear it and also listen for anything “unusual”. When you work on your own car and there’s so many new things you can’t help be constantly monitor sounds. LOL!

Finally got my intake manifold. Wow is all I have to say. EE5EC4DD 901C 4BDF 8A49 D43F0E8A7783730BA1E7 245B 4615 AC24 1A40EBD06FA16DD1A4DA A890 4F45 84C6 40C98B9C1DA8
Check out the top weld all the way around, this thing was beyond ported, ported from top to bottom side to side. Less runner length by about .5”.A82E4511 6170 41B2 972C A3C2B312BFB0

Alone this should make a nice difference, paired with everything else though, unparalleled performance.

802,

It looks great, but in that 5th picture you might want to put some JB weld, or something similar to smooth out that gap. I'm thinking the air flow is not going to like that.

But I'm not a porter or have I ever flow benched a manifold so I really don't know. Just my observation.

The weld is definitely there, but that outer portion is round and evidently slightly hollow, it’s been pressure tested to 50 psi. Also welding bc of the outer shape, it takes a lot of skill to complete the weld and not accidentally burn all the way through, once welded it can’t be grinded.

The manifold is ready to go. It’ll never see 50 psi. But Great question and I appreciate you speaking out to bring it to my attention.

Boy that porting and polishing and cutting and welding looks mighty familiar.

Glad to see you continue to use Max Power and have followed (at least) some of my footsteps and/or suggestions.

Can't wait for BOTH of our respective builds to be completed and roadworthy once again.

Exciting times ahead for sure!

Max Power was certainly a great move on your part and yes I’ve chosen to take some plays out of your play book as well and pony up some additional offerings from Max Power while there.

If there were stages to this I’m definitely a stage or 2(maybe 3) below what your car has become, which is a complete package, from better internal engine parts to visual fit and finish, exterior, interior, internal. Your time in this platform and your build from the last one to this one has and always will be an inspiration for me. To consider my build respectable from you means a lot and I’ll gracelessly call myself the Raggedy Ann cousin of your build. It’s not as sharp, it’s not as clean, its not built the same, but it’s my version of a raw, purpose built “savage” that equally hopes to ruin a lot of high end car owners self esteem!

Whether I can hold on to this record or not, it’s more of the journey along the way, the friendships made and camaraderie of all of us. If I can inspire someone along the way like you have to me then that is awesome! If our ambition to reach beyond the limits of this platform generates new company interests or uncovers new additional parts that we can use to succeed even further then that is priceless!

As much as we want to keep an edge over each other we should try to share as much as possible to allow others to also experience the next level in progressive evolution of performance. Let everyone have the same parts and capable level…..anyone can build a car, but can they drive? (Probably a better suited statement for manual cars lol)
