Yeah I'm subbed to Matt too. I wish there was more videos of idiots in crossovers getting pulled out the bottom of a canyon and whatnot lol. In October I took my truck two-tracking in the U.P. on a whim, man I forgot how much I love being out in the woods. Broke a mirror, bent my step rail, and got hopelessly stuck at 11:00 pm with no chance of escape but I loved every second of it. Felt like a kid again!
Hahaha right? There is something about being away from people and effing around in nature.

Lexus Update: Got home yesterday and worked on the Lexus. I drained the rest of the fuel, changed the oil, double checked the wiring, and went for a short drive. Everything seemed to be happy. The ole r154 trans is pretty notchy and feels old lol. The 6 puck clutch will take some getting used too. I drive a manual car everyday, and this clutch had me on my toes. Got it back home, and the turbo was smoking from the outside. I suspect a small leak from the turbo drain that is burning on the manifold. I did turn the AC to see it still worked, and yes it did. Great success!

Took it back out and tried to do a quick 2nd gear pull. Went well until it popped, and I had no boost. I instantly knew what happened. Seems I didn't tighten down the coupler to the TB. Got it back home, tightened it down, and parked it for the night.

I need to get it titled in my name, and registered today. After that, I will head out and purchase a fire extinguisher (safety first). After that, I will start taking it on longer trips from the house to build my confidence that it wont blow up or burn to the ground.

Couple of things I need to remember to do:
1. Fix oil leak from turbo drain.
2. Heat wrap downpipe.
3. Complete coolant flush.
4. Re-wire boost gauge - Complete.
5. Replace trans oil.
6. Replace rear diff oil.
7. Replace all rubber boost/vac lines.
8. Replace front tires. (rears won't live long)

Alrighty. The Rona has struck my household pretty good last week and this week. I was finally on my feet enough to work on the Lexus. I rewired the boost gauge and it works like a charm. I didn't want to drive the Lexus because I didn't feel well, and needed to know what was going on with boost.

Took it out for an extended drive last night. It is super peaky. Really tame, and then yahtzee when the boost comes in. Holds 17 psi till redline with zero taper. I would expect that with a 3.0 liter and an older 67 mm turbo...lol. It starts making boost at 3900 rpm and then just rips till 6500 when I shifted it.

The 6 puck clutch is touchy but I am getting better with it. The tune needs to be refined, so I will start looking into that. Bought a fire extinguisher just in case.

That's my favorite sentence this week. Sounds like a fun vehicle.
It is fun, and I was gun shy about not having a fire extinguisher with me. All I need is an oil drain line or feed line to rupture and the damn thing burn to the ground. Lol...I will not be the guy below. Screenshot 20211209 174755 DuckDuckGo

My gut tells me you're shifting 1k rpm too early too:evilgrin:

Haha, I hammered it until it hard cut at 6500 in the tune. Remember, crappy 91 gas and stock cams. However, an awesome back fire erupted out of it. I am tallking to my buddy about buying the Brian Crower (BC 272) VVTI cams he has...that will let the spin the 2J to 8k really use that turbo.

Lexus Update: Got up Saturday and started working on the IS300. Did a full coolant flush and the coolant in it....wasn't too bad. However, new coolant went in and after burping the system all was well.

Took it for a rip with my GF and her five year old daughter. I got into it in second gear. My GF promptly started grabbing for the oh **** handle. The five year old, just put her head back in her car seat and smiled. After a short rip through third gear, they were both laughing.

The rest of the day was spent working on the little things. Sunroof was lubed (and works amazing), cleaned up more wiring, and got a fresh pair of Nitto 555 G2's put on the front. There is a back log for the NT05R's so I have to wait until the 16th to get them mounted to the rear.

I won't lie, while I was sick I started getting buyers remorse. That has quickly turned itself around. This car is fully functional now. Heat, AC, heated seats, sweet tape deck, and after a little more refinement it will be an absolute joy to drive. Cruise control even works.

I have an knee operation on Friday so I will probably take it to my buddy Kyle and have him go through the car while I am recovering. Going to ask him to check steering components, sway bar links, engine mounts, trans mounts, u-joints, ect. I need him to build me a rear coilover hat spacer. The tires just touch the wide body kit over aggressive bumps and the coilovers are adjusted to their maximum height. That should fix that problem. Then I will have him build me the biggest down pipe he can fit coming off the turbo. That should help with turbo lag. Going to have him heat wrap the downpipe as well. After that gets all sorted, we can start thinking about cams, fuel pump, and injectors. I think a 500 to 600 hp 2J spinning to 8k on corn will make me happy.

Lexus Update: I have been beating on her like drum. However, she is starting to develop a knock. I changed the oil (only had 400 miles on it) and it was already super black and when I cut open the oil filter open there was some silver in the filter paper. So like any sane person, I put a heavier oil in it along with some Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer and continued to send it this past weekend. YOLO. However, I did purchase a brand new OEM 2JZ GTE short block directly from Toyota yesterday. Set me back $3,500 but it will be shipped to my house. There is a catch....Toyota cannot confirm when the engine will arrive to my house because of the plandemic. So the waiting game starts.

However, this is allow me to pull the engine and start gathering parts. Plans include cleaning the engine bay and moving some items around. Mainly the ABS module and power steering reservoir. I am going to get the turbo manifold and downpipe ceramic coated as well. Planning on installing a new 525 lph fuel pump, and get the head ported and polished. Going to get the BC 272 cams installed as well. When she goes back together and gets tuned on E30... an easy 600 hp (700hp if I put it on ****) and an 8k redline will be fun.

Knee operation went well. Still rehabbing and trying to get back into better shape.

SHO continues with DD duties with the GF and continues to be issue frees sans upside down back up camera. However, I do need to change the upper radiator hose soon. The plastic junction is starting to weep and it kinda freaked me out because I was seeing coolant spotting under the car the last oil change. I was dreading the water pump...but quickly traced it back to the radiator hose. Still need to throw her back on E30 and strap her on the dyno for her final numbers since I installed the HPFP a while back. Hoping for a 400+ hp and 500 + TQ pull.

Did a lot to my SHO after back surgery, then a knee replacement. I feel for you, Bro. Speedy recovery!

So...final MOD update on the SHO. Threw her on the dyno for the first time since I put the HPHP on. With the stock pump and E30 and FBO she put down 391 hp and 494 tq. With the HPHP and revised AJP tune she cracked off 411 hp and 546 tq. Finally the 400 barrier fell. Lol what a fight. Remember this is with worn out stock turbos too. The dyno tech said he pressed the record on the dyno a tad late and missed the actual peak tq but he said he expected 555 to 560 TQ. So yeah. Extremely pleased with the set up.

So FS HPFP and revision netted me 20 HP and 52 TQ to the tire.
