My brain is racing for some reason today, probably from work stress so let me get this out without sounding like a complete nut. But I've been running this natural gas oil and it's great, over 2k miles on it and it's still full. Now it looks burnt brown color. But I am having a huge issue with this oil that I'm pulling it out early and sending it in for testing. I went to my local Ford store where my friend is a tech and was looking over it with him. My car smoke like ****, white smoke. Dosnt really smell like oil, but has a small hint of oil in the smell. My coolant is fine, turbos are fine. New pcv valve recently and catch can is nearly empty after this 2k miles. No engine blow by as it's a young engine still.
We come to the conclusion that the oil is breaking down too fast for my driving type. That is high rpm paddle shift, Run 1st gear to 5k and let off the gas to hear the bangs with my crackle tune. If I run in sport mode or D mode it's fine and maybe a little smoke haze.
I'm going back to Royal Purple tonite, bottoms up. This oil isn't for my driving style. Yes it's full and not burning a drop somehow yet it smokes out the road and my driveway as much as my car did when it was blown up and burning 6qts in 10 miles.
I'm sending my oil sample to Blackstone tomorrow and I'll post whatever they send me for a result.

Normal driving, this oil is awesome. I just put new tips on my exhaust 2 days ago and they are pitch black already. Either way my car is fine and the oil has to be the issue.

My head is wrecked.

Edit: oh no issues with the best Mobil 1, Royal Purple HPS, Amsoil Signature and Motul ester core oil. I was running this oil as an test to send it to Blackstone after 3k miles, but it got me so on edge that I pulled it out a 2k.

Just got it out of the engine, brown already and very watery. No viscosity really, turbos learned that oil how to be water.
Let's see what the oil test says when it comes back.

I've run amsoil and royal purple no problems. I was going to do a 3k mile test on natural gas oil but I felt I needed to pull it out at 2k miles. I just sent it in, ive seen good and bad about it. Project farm on YouTube did a multi oil comparison and it came in 2nd to amsoil. But his break down and evaporation test was done on a hot plate at idk 200degrees F. Our turbos get up to 1700F pretty normally...

In my theory of why the oil separator isn't catching anything is because it is already well past a certain point to vapor in the engine before it gets to the separator.
No doubt the oil is clean and good for NA engines but I think it's breaking down too quickly with our turbo setup. Time will tell with my results.
Or I should run 0w40 or 5w40 as you said you run. It may last 3k miles or so at 40

I'm not sure on the return time. The oil is hto-06 approved, so in normal driving habits it is a very clean oil with little to no valve deposit.
I'm not trying to push people away from the oil, I was testing it and it was rapidly breaking down and I want to know why. Hopefully it's not my car and it is the oil. Maybe the crackle pop bang bang tune makes the turbos hotter then a control test at the same rpm on a normal tune.

can you physically feel the viscosity breakdown between your fingers? Other than the smoke was there anything else that alerted you to change it? I wonder if the chemical makeup is able to get past the seals in the turbos or something. I see people recommending this all the time in other groups, so curious was would cause it unless people are just going off the marketing alone and not paying attention to their vehicles.

Yea it feels really thin like putting my hand into water. Now I didn't touch it going in. That's why I'm sending it in, I'm not used to this type of oil and maybe it's normal. But all the smoke isn't normal and it's all from the turbos, did testing at ford and all the smoke is from the turbos. Running my royal purple now, I'm trying to duplicate smoke results and I can't. As usual.

I'd like to keep running the pennzoil. 2k miles and the catch can was empty and valves with my inspection camera were clean. 3k miles on royal purple previously and the catch can had gunk in it and the valves were dirty enough I had to clean them with crc intake valve and turbo cleaner.
It's definitely a clean oil, I didn't burn any as level was still full but it thinned out big time.
I hope I get these results back soon, I'm stuck in the middle. I want it to be the oils fault. And then again I don't because I'd like to keep using it. But I really don't want to find any issues on the car.

OK, I did a quick spin back through Project Farm's test and as usual he's using evaporation loss at 425 degrees F. As I recall his test is reasonably similar to standard oil industry tests.
It's possible your turbo has some spots getting up to your claimed temperature of 1700F (that would be a fairly bright orange glow!). But no lubricant used for cars can withstand anything remotely close to that. The cooling provided by the coolant system and the oil had better be keeping the oil contact surfaces WAY below that.
The oil you show in the pictures says it's a Resource Conserving grade. These are formulated for better fuel economy and do not and in fact cannot have as high of a HTHS value! I'm not sure that PF's videos, as excellent as they are, will show this difference as it's related to the breakdown over time of the oil due to shear. For hard use, you want to forgo RC oils. I'm told that Mercedes won't even allow them to be used in their hi-perf engines.

I'd recommend looking into oils with the highest HTHS numbers, ~3.5 and higher. Motul 8100 X-clean (for direct injection engines for lower deposits), Motul 300V and Red Line 5W30 are good places to start, though lots of the Subaru tuners seem to like the Shell Rotella T6 5W40. I'm sure there must be oil discussion threads galore here, but I found what I liked better as a source of information. My results are back from Blackstone and yeah stay away from this oil for any turbo charged application. Their comments on the findings say it's not a good oil for turbo application. Thought I'd give it a try, making smoke was fun.

Great ! Just had my delivery of some come yesterday. Any body use redline 5w30 ? Redline is in a lot of are rear gears and ptu’s. Thinking of going all red. Car is ruby red. Lol

After talking with the oil lab, they said the oil isnt the best for turbo application but i got my results back and i guess the oil is fine. Wasnt burning any oil so if anything the smoke was from turbos getting a tad bit of oil past them and probably the bang bang tune.
I had to crop a section out of my results with my personal info.

Well, dirt in the oil by 2k miles is a GOOD, thing, as it's detergent properties are cleaning up what your prior oil was not.

If the results are fine, any BS about "not being right for turbos" is pure speculation, supported by nothing. If it meets that spec, it's the same as every other oil that meets the spec.

How do I know this oil? The 0W-40version is the only specified oil for both the Dodge 6.4 Scat Pack 485 hp engine, as well as all variants of the 6.2 Hellcat engine (707-717-797-and the two 800+ hp Demon and Super Stock variants.

Very interesting findings. I've used Motorcraft 5w-50 full synthetic in all 4 of my Fords I have had. Seems to hold up well to my abusive driving habits.

I really only wanted to try it once i saw it was hto-06 rated for gtdi engines. And i seen iffy ratings on it on our platform. I talked to Ford Racing rep at my local speed shop. Said about all the mods and tune and was told to give 5w40 amsoil a try. So thats what i have ordered for my next oil change. Amsoil 5w40 European, as most Europe performance cars come pop and bang from factory
