I just learned my SHO is totaled. I scraped a rock with my belly pan in a pullout on the Denali highway and all the oil make a break for it. Thankfully I shut it down seconds later and got to watch the vast majority of the oil escape. No low oil pressure warning came up or anything so I thought the engine would be OK and I could get it fixed. I mean, it's just a belly pan right? $200 part, maybe?

No, they have to pull the engine (28 hours shop time!) and the insurance company is not willing to try to repair it with the possibility of the engine being damaged and needing replacement. They only allow a $6500 repair limit on my car which I bought for $18500 two years ago and the KBB values are ~$12k. My best case scenario might be to be able to pay off the loan and not have a car. I'm doubtful I can afford to buy back the car and get it fixed ($4k min repair).

sorry to be a downer everyone

Sorry to hear that, but you definitely need to talk to another shop before you make any decisions. Also if the current repair estimate is below their “total” limit I don’t think your insurance company has the right to deny the claim based on their own speculation that something else might be broken.

@High on Ethanol I guess you were on to something with that skid plate idea earlier!

I don’t understand it either. So they’re telling you it’s a 2013+? I know you want the better timing chain. Weird and beyond frustrating...that’s a while to wait and way too many screw ups...

They're not telling me anything I haven't called them yet because they were closed by the time I received the engine. Apparently they keep sending me a 2010 at least a 2013 would be a dual sprocket timing chain

sorry to hear man. Are you getting stuck with shipping charges on all these or getting the full amount refunded each time?

They modded that engine too, right? How does that work for the return? Is that their loss or are you out of pocket because of them?
