I’m happy to announce that after some serious considerations I’m dropping a new engine into my SHO! I just had one major question. When looking for an engine is there anything specific I should look for that is critical for the engine to perform well in the long term, besides the obvious compression, all the part there etc... lol. I found a used engine with 38k miles on it I’m leaning towards with a 1 yr unlimited mile warranty. Considering I blew my last engine up within 5 months, I think a year is more than enough warranty.... The SHO should be back up and running by next weekend going to try and knock out the swap in a day

Who's putting it in and is it in the Ford system or an accessible database? If not, and it has under 100k then I would think about an extended warranty from Ford. It should pass the inspection checklist I would guess.

Me and my buddy are putting it in, how would I check if it’s in the ford system?

Did you take it to a Ford dealer for repair after the rod went? I'm not sure how other repairs get into systems like carfax and other industry databases. If it's not in there and a tech can't see a whatever salvage neon marking all over the bottom or top of the engine then you should be able to slide it through. I don't know if there are obvious marking on the block that they have to verify or not during inspection.

I would get a warranty on one of these. It's not just the motor, the rest of the driveline is more prone to failure.

Even the outer reaches of the interwebs are catching on, as the anecdotal experiences at repair places see the body count stacking up. I just saw a scotty kilmer video about the waterpump issue. Makuloco Ford repair vids. All kinds of places other than the concentration points where you get the feedback faster like here and other ecoboost groups (and class action suits that get dismissed routinely by Michigan circuit courts).

I never brought it to the dealer, I tend to do all the maintenance myself.

If it's not in anyone's repair facility to get into the system should be easy. I just don't know if the block matching numbers are part of the warranty inspection process. Other than that, is there a reason you decided to revive it? You know the weak spots and mentioned other vehicles for similar money.

I couldn’t bear to see it go, most definitely one of the most fun cars I’ve ever owned. I also love the fact that it’s a perfectly functioning 4 door car that’s also a complete sleeper. My other cars havent had any serious problems (knock on wood) so I figured I might as well have one car to dump money into lol

Post pics of the project! And consider doing the timing system/water pump at the same time. 2011 MY and 32K miles is VERY low. If it was shorttripping, that is more like 100K highway miles on it.

They did not check engine #s on my car when I got my warranty. Was a fairly low tech inspection. You should be able to get the new engine warrantied like nothing happened.

Uh oh. Those are classic symptoms of SHO owner derangement syndrome. It will override all of your logic and financial responsibility circuits in the face of complete money pits. Welcome to the hive!

4 hrs is pretty good time! Now might be a good time to change driveline fluids if needed. All that exhaust and engine out of the way.

Tapatalk on iPhone won’t let me upload more pic at a time, back side was a pain in the a**. Ended up splitting the rear turbo in half since they were shot anyways.
