Anyone else have a ton of orange peel in their paint ? Kinda new to detailing but I'm thinking of doing a wet sand to knock off the lumps in the clear coat. Anyone else done this ?

Mine has no orange peel, but the metallic flake is uneven on the hood though. All the doors are misaligned, either in the up/down or in/out plane. Hood fit is poor as well, tight on one side, fine on the other.

My 2018, the drivers front and rear doors did not align, gap was fine, just that the bottom of the front door stuck out further than the front of the rear door. And the trunk was taking on water when it rained hard. Had the dealer fix it - it was in their body shop for almost a week. Gotta say, though, they did a great job. Huntington Ford on Long Island.

Rear Ford emblem was scratched like someone took a Dremel to it, too, and I had them replace that as well.

Most OEM paint jobs are not great. A friend of mine has a detail shop that does a ton of business with dealers in the area and the before & after pics is incredible! Even the BMWs, Mercedes, etc. He does a paint correction then a ceramic coat.

I've probably watched every one of this guys videos lol
I have too, that is why I said "MOW" it first. Between him and Pan "The Organizer" I have learned a great deal of knowledge. However, it has put my OCD into overdrive and now I have a serious mental problem...

Yeah the orange peel is not in the clear coat it is in the base coat and they make a comment in the video that it actually serves a purpose and usually I'd you look this up they say it's due to spraying the clear coat to quickly before the base levels out

It would be difficult to get orange peel in a metallic base coat. It's usually in the clear coat. It is therefore safe to color sand until the clear is flat and then buff.

I wouldn't exactly call it orange peel, but the paint on almost any new base coat clear coat car looks lumpy to me. The days of a truly flat level paint are a thing of the past. Last weekend I gave the SHO a good washing followed by clay bar, Maguire's 26, and a final coat of Maguire's Ultimate Synthetic Paste Wax. It's a few steps short of swirl removal and ceramic coating, but it's a noticeable difference. First time I've ever clay bared anything and I was surprised that it really didn't take that long to do the whole car and it's smooth as glass (lumpy paint or not).

I always do clay prior to wax. People are afraid of it for some reason, but it's stupid simple. I had my wife help do a used car we bought and she caught on to how it works in all of about 5 seconds. We had the whole car clayed in about 15 minutes.

I do the same as Eric......

Clay Bar 1st, THEN wax.

Results speak for themselves and yes, it's MUCH EASIER than people realize.

Finish looks great there 6500!
