Hi folks, I had the issue listed in this tsb. Under 20 mph, usually downshifting off the gas the trans would engage super hard. I changed the fluid twice, removed my tune, put latest ford software on car and still had issue.

I bought the updated valve body separator plate on Ebay, pulled valve body, cleaned it with brake cleaner , installed new plate, new fluid and the problem is gone. The new valve body plate has one hole deleted and the check ball removed. It looks like my trans had the plate replaced with the old separator part number because the hole was still there but check ball was removed. Trans has 142k and it had a little gray residue but really clean overall. Shifts perfect now.

By the way, the tsb calls for replacement of a second separator plate but that plate is unmodified in design so I reused mine and also reused the filter screen. It had zero debris. The pan gasket was reused also.

The repair cost me $45, and 2 hours of time.5573572f7008bc49d8853bf7abe43cf7

Do you have the part number for the updated plate ?
Is it 7T4Z-7Z490-D or is that the original that is not updated?
