It's on the same side as the full plug but is about half the size. It' not on the bottom of the p.t.u.

Thanks, I have the PP so the downpipe is in the way, i have to take that off to get to it....I just ordered some Amsoil severe duty for it, since Ford replaced it at 44,500 miles I have 63,500 now, I thought I should replace it while I put on my new tires and get wheel alignment.(new Gmax RS summers 360 AA

So I was just changing the cabin air filter and the air filter, and took a little gander around the engine compartment. Is this the PTU? And is it leaking oil? Doesn't even look like it's bolted in properly, and the seal isn't lined up! WTF

Thank my friend is something I would get checked out pronto, even the blackshiney tar looking stuff that might be your PU fluid looks pretty beat up. I bought my car used 35,000 miles, it had a bad whine, they replaced both front PTU and rear differential on my car at 44,000. (still whined, but not so bad) The "fluid" that came out was black Shiney foul smelling sludge like that, it was so thick it would not fall off a spoon. Ford service manager berated me it was half full and looked like that. I reminded him Ford says it is 100,000 mile maintenence and I just bought the car, used, Certified....I just bought some Amsoil severe duty full synthetic fluid for replacing next week. Bought 1qt 22 bucks shipped, uses 1.1 pints (2 pints in a qt.)

Clean the area off with some engine degreaser, see if that goop returns. But take a sample of the existing goop first - how thick is it, how does it smell, etc. They might just not have cleaned up.

I'll try to spray it down with some brake cleaner, see if that does the trick. If it comes back, the dealer is going to get a nice phone call from me :)

Yeah I’m pretty mad considering I just had the PTU replaced less than 500 miles ago lol!

If you had the ptu replaced recently it’s probably left over oil that puked out of the vent.
The vent on the ptu is further to the left in your pic which is still clean.
Dealer was prob lazy and didn’t clean up the mess
