That was to replace the PTU, they said they have to verify that the PTU is the culprit. Now I managed to find a shop that is willing to drain it and refill X3 with fresh fluid. Will do that for now until I can come up with the fundsReplacing the PTU or the PTU fluid?

Edit: this shop also has 2 master certified ford techs, and told me if I could source a PTU, they will install it for me, he said about 5 hours labor cost.
Can someone help me find the correct PTU for my car?
Thank you for that idea, just called my local dealer and he gave me part number: AT4Z7251GCall a dealership with your VIN handy for a price quote and have them give you a part number at the same time.
It doesn't mention draining the old fluid because it mentions removing the entire PTU. When you remove the shafts from the PTU the fluid is going to come out the openings. While it doesn't directly state to drain the PTU it will happen when performing WSM section 308-07 remove PTU.This is the TSB in question: http://www.revbase.com/BBBMOTOR/TSb/DownloadPdf?id=171259
Edit: I don’t see anywhere in this tsb where it mentions draining the old fluid before refilling it?
I've had similar things happen when taking my old vehicle to Ford once. They wanted to diagnose the problem I had already diagnosed and charge the fee. In person I politely discussed with them what I had done and that I didn't want them to diagnose. I simply wanted them to change the part no questions asked, just do it. I signed a statement stating I wouldn't receive any warranty on the work or that it would fix the problem. The only warranty I was receiving was for the part itself. After doing all that they finally changed the part and I didn't have any issues. It is extremely frustrating! I’ve now called 4 dealers to get a quote on replacing the PTU, all of them said they have to look at it first. All of them want to charge a diagnostic fee of at least 129$
Thanks. I've herd of Tousley didn't know they changed names, and have ordered from Tasca in the past. The Ford dealer that SHOdded linked to @ White Bear Lake (formerly Tousley) usually has excellent prices and customer service. Either them or Tasca.
Cool someone finally stepped up! I would keep an eye on it on a monthly basis till you can confirm the fluid isnt getting nasty anymore
It's generally a sign that the oil is sludging up and needs changed. What's happening is there is an air/oil separator in the PTU. It's essentially a horizontal tube area with a hole on the top (the PTU vent) and a hole on the bottom (to allow the oil to fall back down into the PTU). When the PTU spins it throws oil into this separator. When the oil starts to sludge up it will cause the lower hole to plug up and not allow oil to drain. This means oil is getting slung into the separator and the only way out is through the vent.I will second monitoring the PTU. Usually venting oil out the vent is a sure sign of a dying put. I may be wrong.

Mine was puking out of the vent when I got it. So I changed it several times in quick succession to get all new fluid and "wash" out the sludge. Since then, I haven't had any issues or fluid coming out of the vent.
