so, I think my ambient temperature sensor is broken since it's showing 69 degrees on a 90+ degree day and I even drove it around for 20+ minutes.

These things are cheap ($7.50 on RockAuto). Where exactly is the sensor located though?

I could check the service manual for the 2011 tonight and assume it's the same location in your 2013. Ford often has these located behind the front grill. The two wires to it will be Yellow/Violet (Return) and Yellow/Green (AAT signal).

unplug it and replug it first, more often a connector issue than a sensor issue.

Turns out I do have the 2013 factory service manual. I forgot I bought it to help my brother with his wife's Escape.

Anyway, wire color is the same and the location is where I expected it to be. See connector C198 in the lower center of the following image.

What is also interesting is how much this sensor affects the car. It can cause performance degredation as well as control your HVAC airflow depending on how hot it is outside.. crazy.
