Stock STi intercoolers are more efficient than eBay junk and weigh a lot less. 08+ intercoolers are bigger as well. The y-pipe (two ports) is the inlet to the intercooler.

Looks good!

that looks great - good luck keeping it away from Tom!

I expect you will find you need a lot more wrap on the alternator for sure and the a/c compressor too if you ever use it.

Since when is any Kia Rio part an upgrade to anything? :laugh_ti:

It looks like it's coming along well. Keep it up! :thumb:

Belt system

Awesome job, Phoenix. Keep the updates coming.

I'm curious about your belt arrangement. I too don't need power steering, but I retained the pump to accommodate the accessory belt. It looks as though you're getting tension from the tensioner without PS pump. What size belt did you go with?

I'm going to take a serious look at dumping the PS pump now. Too cool!

Phoenix,

If you find you need more belt wrap on the three pulleys that need it most: crank, AC compressor and alternator, you can do what I did originally on TOW and that was to add two idlers, one on each of those two threaded holes on that aluminum bracket just above the water pump's intake hose. The bottom idler will give you more wrap on the crank and AC compressor and the top idler will give you more on the alternator and water pump. Because the aluminum bracket was going to experience side loading from the idler's bolts, we made a bracket to "double shear" those two bolts.

Thats a good idea , Im gonna have a look at that.

3d914: I can pull it off for you if you want the number. BTW you will need to do some welding , this is a rear MTX bracket system , and this is a ATX tens.

So , I took a ATX bracket , cut off the bit where the tens. bolts to and welded that bit to the MTX brackets.

Also note that mine is a 3.2 , the whole shebang is 3.2 , all pulleys , and front brackets are 3.2.

Does that mean that the stock 3.2L tensioner won't engage the belt if I'm dropping straight down from the WP to the Crank - and that's why you welded yours?

If you want a 3.2 MTX like mine and many others , you ABSOLUTELY need the rear MTX bracket (which leads to the rear engine mount). That bracket also holds the intermediate shaft which is not there in the ATX version.

But using that bracket means you dont have the ATX tens position because the MTX uses some stupid manual belt tens.

Hope this helps.

Some other pics

Gen3 brakes , and Panhard bars with heim joints to replace the steering rack/tierods

HPIM0228.JPG

Since theres no mechanical handbrake possible (all calipers are front ones) , and if im getting hit with a mechanical inspection - might as well do it now - its needed. Its a go-kart caliper and rotor. This just might work as an e-brake.

HPIM0229.JPG

Turbo ,in parts but to show the size of it. Its a garett hybrid (gt35) fully rebuilt by a turbo expert. He said this turbo setup in a 300zx (replaced the twins by this big boy) and he pushed close to 500hp.
