I just successfully updated Ford MyTouch Sync (Sync 2) in my 2015 SHO.

1) I mades sure the sat-nav SD card was version 6 (I think there's an issue with versions 1 and 2). I do have a version 10 nav SD, but did not use it before performing the sync.

2) Have a USB stick larger than 8GB formatted to FAT 32 available to use.

Note: My first attempt was a failure. The failure was, "Bad Installation File." I found out that there were no naughty files, but that when I got the download on my macOS Catalina, the files were unzipped flat, with no respect for subdirectories. In short, my file structure on my USB drive was incorrect first time around.

3) Get the update from Ford, download it, and put it on your USB drive.

File structure is very important. Two files, autoinstall.lst and DONTINDX.MSA (this is a zero-byte file, btw) should be in the root of the USB drive. There should also be this subdirectory, SyncMyRide. The folder SyncMyRide should contain a bunch of *.cab and *.zip files (my update had 20 files).

WARNING: when you do this, you must keep the engine of the car on. If the engine turns off before the process finishes, you might brick the system. I recommend driving the car, so an auto-shut-off doesn't happen accidentally.

4) Remove any USB sticks currently installed in your car.
5) Turn off bluetooth on all paired mobile phones near or in the car.

6) Start the car.
7) Turn on the radio.
8) Plug in your USB drive to the car's USB input in the center arm rest.

The installation begins automagically. There's a warning. Read it. Let the installation go. The system reboots a few times, the screen goes blank several times for what seems like forever, and the installation seems to get hung up a few times, but doesn't really. Let it run. Give it over 30 minutes.

9) After all that, it will end. Click OK to accept the termination of the process and remove the USB stick from the car.

HTH,

Sean
