First off, why do you have to slam them so hard to make them latch?
Second, why do they like to unlatch while driving?

Both my 95's have to be slammed to shut, and tonight driving home the hood popped up ( not fly up, but like you would get if you pulled the release to open it), and it's happened out of the blue on both my 95's. Whats up with this?

If you dont want to slam it, dont open it.
If you dont want it to open, duct tape it.

 Kidding....

Try replacing the latching mechanism. They get worn out over time and thats what usually causes them to unlatch or not catch, resulting in slamming it.

Hmmmm, i've never had a problem with the hood on my '95. I don't slam it either, just close it normally and it stays shut.

Maybe the mechanism is out of adjustment?

Sounds like the release cable needs to be adjusted. When the hood is closed do you have any play with the release handle? It should be nice and tight. If you can feel any play in it that is your problem.

No issues here...

Is the part where it latches to the hood bent? There should be some adjustment in the latch too, to adjust it up. Or lower the hood bumpers. Sounds like it isn't catching the hood for some reason.

I'll check into it, it's just funny that both the 95's have done this, but the gen I's I've had always shut so easy and have never popped up.

I personally don't drop mine to latch, I set them down until the secondary safety latch catches, then push down to fully latch it. Then pull up to make sure it is latched.

Over time the mechanism will slide down and not latch fully. Loosen the bolts a bit and move it up, not a ton, and tighten the bolts back down.

on my most recent 92, the release cable return spring was not strong enough, so the cable would not return and therefore the latch would not catch.

try pushing the release cable handle forward before you close the hood.
