These motor are high volume, low pressure units. If you put a gallons per minute meter on your system, you would get some big numbers. However, oil pressure numbers are always going to seem weak.

The accepted rule of thumb is 10psi per 1000RPM or thereabouts.
My engine runs at 9psi at idle when warmed up.

you should see 8-10 at idle and 10 psi/1k RPM as stated.

Under the assumption you have a unit which you have plumb an oil line to the gauge itself (versus have a sender)the reading is 60 psi at start up because there is air inside the gauge itself which rose up while the car was sitting and this throws the reading off because the oil and air compress differently. Mine will read 60 psi at start up as well but about a minute after warming up it'll jump back down.
I have a 3.2l which supposedly has a better oil pump assembly but at idle I usually have about 12 psi of pressure. Highway speeds I see between 28-40 psi. Under WOT it peaks at 60psi, maybe 65psi, I can't pay tto much attention for obvious reasons there.

26 psi at idle? that is still bloated, what does it read after a couple minutes of driving when your at a stop light?

if your hot idle is 26 psi with 10w30 you should run a thinner oil.

That's something I forgot to mention, I found 5w30 runs better, I also only use mobil 1

there isn't one, you have to install a T where the stock oil pressure gauge goes into the block and then you have a place to attach the stock sensor and the sensor for the gauge.
Towards the driver's side of the engine bay.
It is on the firewall side, or rear head.
Follow one of the heater hoses down to the where it meets the block.
You are very close to the sensor now.
AREA91, I've been drag racing since 1961, and out of curiosity, how do you keep a drivetrain in a FWD Taurus that has to weigh 3000 pounds, hooking 336hp to the pavement, to turn essentially 13.00 in the 1/4? And you're running that through a MTX IV?

Yes, it's hard and expensive to do.
I run slicks, drive shaft shop stage 5 axles, and a quaife in the tranny.
With this kind of power, and slicks, something will eventually break.
Last time I snapped the input shaft in half!
I really like going old school every now and then and taking my 67 Impala to the drags.
I can run as many passes as I like with no drama, or broken parts.
We also have a bracket car in the family.
FYI I also have my super comp license.
