Just a question, I don't see that it was asked before.. How hard would it be to add the rear heated seat option if it was not installed from the factory? I really wish my SHO had this option. Is the wiring already there?

I thought the rear heated seats were standard on the SHO models. I could imagine the dealer could add this option easily.....it might be a matter of swapping seat bottoms, wiring and adding the controls to the center console. Is it really that important that the peeps behind you have a warm @$$?

IIRC heated rear seats only came on 402 pkg SHO's. It might not be that simple. It mainly depends on if the wiring harness is the same or not. If it's not, that would require an entirely new interior harness to do it correctly. It would be hard to tell if it is without having a SHO with and one without rear heated seats next to each other with the backseats taken out to compare harnesses.

Also, I believe the controls are switches mounted to the back of the center console, so you would have to get a new one of those with the holes and switches in it, unless you want to try to cut square holes out of your current console.

I know there are aftermarket heated seat pads out there now that might be easier to do in your situation. They just insert them into the seat and wire them up independently.

Yes to me it really is that important, thats why I took the time to ask this question.. I will have to pop out the rear cig lighter and see if wiring is there, I figures it may have been a plug in behind the radio or something and just a matter of adding a small piece of harness, and the seat cushion.

Yes it must be at least an option for you guys down south since it's on my ride. Ours up here come only one way -- fully equipped (tho without PP. :frown:) so it was standard here.

For your ride it should be adaptable at the dealer.

I'll try to remember to check the factory service manual wiring diagram to see if there are a bunch of "with heated rear seats" labels and components. I suspect there will also be a relay for the rear seat heaters. I would expect the most cost-effective approach would be to install aftermarket seat heaters. Usually pulling the seat covers is not THAT difficult. You may have an interior trim shop around that would install the pads if you are not comfortable doing seat cover work yourself.

The wiring harness for the rear heated seats doesn't appear to be shared with another wiring harness according to the service manual. In addition to the wiring and the switches, there is also a "rear heated seat module", and the upper and lower heating pads. The power is sourced from the Smart Junction Box fuses F18 and F35. Fuse F35 powers more than just the rear heated seat.

The rear heated seat module appears to be mounted at the base of the passenger rear seat back/cushion. It looks like it would be below the trunk carpet on the passenger side.
