So i have a question. im leaking a QT. every 300-400 miles. my dad looked and he says its rear main and I dont think so beacause it A. leaks too much B. it leaks also from the back of the oil pan. What ever it is its going back an hitting the exhaust ONLY when driving. I went and pressure washed the top of the engine and nothing up there is leaking.
How do i differ from an oil pan gasket and rear main gasket.

You can have both leaking. If it is the rear leaking then you will have oil coming from between the engine and transmission.

Please don't ever pressure wash the engine if you want it to operate correctly again.

Get under there and see if you are leaking at the oil level or oil pressure senders. The oil level sender in particular can really make for a spectacular spray :)

Also check to see if you have a lot of oil above the pan level in the back. If so, check to see if your rear cam seal is leaking.

^^^ good advice.

Have you ever replaced any gaskets on the motor? If not, it is probably your valve covers, cam seals, front main, rear main, oil pan, and oil level sensor.

well its leaking there (around where the engine and tranny meet) but its also leaking around the whole oil pan gasket. Ive replaced VC gaskets and there is NOTHING leaking from the top that much. not enough for a qt every 300 miles. it is visibly coming from the bottom of the engine.
I was careful enough not to spray anything electrical. Ive done it many times and never had a problem on my shos. but i dont go wild with the sprayer either

It's probably burning some too. A quart every 300 miles is A LOT to leak.

Your going to have to just start somewhere. I'd personally start with the oil pan and the oil level sensor. Those are the easiest. Change them and go from there.

The rear main means pulling the transmission, so obviously i'm sure your not rushing to do that.

With the oil pan eliminated it will be much easier to tell what else is leaking.

Yes i think i will do oil level sensor. Then oil pan if that doesnt fix it. I know rear main is a pain so i am hoping its something different. The only oil i see is on the driver side cam sensor one. thats the only one that is leaking.
