Here's a photo of how they should look (and fortunately do look on my car). Note that they are unlocked.
Clamps

-Rod

I finally clued in Rod -- humble apologies: What you've said about the clamps is absolutely true. The clamps on my engine were clearly not closed but left open.
I checked others and sure enough they were just not locked (and thereby tightened) in.
Here's another, clearer pic of them still left as is on the hoses:

All I needed to do was release them to the tight locked position, but I'm glad to replace them in favour of the screw typle.

Thanks for the help, picture and the info.

Geezuz Lou-ezuz...... no inferences there.....

.....and whoa, hold on, back up the F'n bus.... Mark, did I miss something here? :braincramp:

You are admitting that you've encountered small hoses a "number of times"?

Eerrrr, Ummmm..... I'm not sure if I want to know the answer as to why that is Mark.....

You're not like hang'n out in dark corners of the men's locker rooms at your local Health club are you?? :gayroll:

Negative, Ghostrider! Just a few comments that have been made by the very, very small number of ladies that I have...mmmmmhh, let's say been fairly close friends with! Gee, Mike, as the line from The Music Man: "The sadder but wiser girl for me!" :laugh_ti:

No need to apologize, but I'm glad you found the source of your leak. It is comforting to know that we still don't have proof that some of our cars were assembled with wrong hose clamps, although loose clamps isn't a whole lot better.

I'm definitely glad you found that issue now rather than in the middle of some long, deserted stretch of highway. That ending to this post, along with some of the other comments, would have made for a ED drug commercial parody.

I would definitely suggest you alert your dealer and FoMoCo to this issue. Sadly, chances are your car was not the only one that this was done to, and my Lean Champion training last week would suggest that the only way the manufacturer can remedy problems like this is if they are aware they exist.

Thanks Rod, yes I'll be discussing this with the dealer to give them a heads up.
I won't be surprised to find out that they know about it already.

I thought of the inconvenience of this problem on a trip and am glad to have dodged that bullet for sure.
