Hello fellow SHO enthusiasts!

Lately my 91 has been running a bit on the rough side, loss of power, ....umm coughing.. but it idles just fine.

I've tried octane boosters, fuel injector cleaners, gas treatment, etc..

I've been advised it's the cps or the cam sensor.. can it run with a bad one of any of those two? the other night, I parked it and when I came back to her 10 hours later, it wouldn't start.. just turned over forever.. I tried for an hour.. my buddy checked the codes (KOEO) and looked them up, to get car running ok, car running lean.

However, the next day when I'm getting a tow truck there, for giggles, the guy threw the key in the ignition and started it RIGHT up no stall or issues..

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

We did the KOEO code check and got codes 11, 41, and 91. The car would not start at the time so the KOER codes couldnt be pulled. When he tried to start it it would turn over but just crank and crank but wouldnt fire. At first guess i assumed it would be the CPS cause it was doing exactly what my 93 did, but we didnt get any codes relating to that and like he said, it sat over night and then fired right up. He mentioned to me last week that the car hadnt been running good. Doesnt have full power at high RPMs.

Lean on the rear bank, no switching on the front bank. I wouldn't worry so much about that right now, because it wouldn't cause a no start condition.

I'd start checking fuel pressure, pull a plug wire or three and check the condition of those.

I'd also check for vacuum leaks if the fuel pressure seems OK.

If this happens again, try flooring the gas pedal when cranking and see if it will start.

Just checking to make sure the codes you got were not 14, and 19, instead of 11,41,and 91.

14 would indicate an ignition failure.

nope, flash flash flash flash (pause) flash. you get the jist of it. the car would not fire, i was suprised those were the only codes that came up.

does the tach lift when you crank the car over?

the answer to this is important, because it will help distinguish between cam sensor issues and crank sensor issues.

if the doesnt move, the cam sensor is likely the culprit.

if the tach moves as normal, then there is a much longer list of possibilities as to what could be wrong - crank sensor, dis, ccrm, pcm, etc.

@Bob-You'll have to excuse my ignorance of mechanics, what exactly do you mean lean on the rear bank?
as for the condition of the coil pack, that night it wouldn't start, I held the top of the plug wire just above that metal hole where it plugs into, and had a friend turn it over, no fire/spark.. and even when Irish Pride was there to give me a lift, no start, but the next day... started right up.

Ok how do I clean gunk/sh*t outta the chamber for the plug? (or I geuss I mean is there a certain cleaning solution I should get?) one of them has corrosion from oil and water.. I thought I had blown most of it out with an air duster can, but apparently I didn't get it all, thus the dried up corrosion...

@Brett- I've had trouble with the tach not moving at all, but I just tap on the shield in front of it, and it pops right up.. I've always just figured it was some sort of loose connection.

Is it possible a loose wire that gets jiggled around hooked to the crank/cam sensors? My older brother (who is a tbird ****** lol) told me I need to be investigating the wire connecting to the crank position sensor... my problem is, I have no idea where it is or what it looks like... and he lost patience trying to explain it over the phone..

is there anywhere I can find a diagram of different parts of the SHO motor?
I'm very interested in learning about my SHO. Thanks again to all that advise!

oh and another thing... today my SHO ran like a bat outta ****. WTF.

It's done this many times, run awesome for a while, then crappy, then awesome, crappy, etc... I've always thought it's some sort of sensor or a loose connection, since its not a constant...but a variable.

There are all kinds of things that can make the tach not move when you crank it, including the DIS. If the tach moves, it's most likely the crank sensor. If it doesn't move, it's probably still the crank sensor because of the symptomology.
