what do you mean by spending a little more cash? what else would they do to make it more money?

Purchasing a (generic) tune thru the mail can't match an exacting dyno tune.
But time and money then come into it to get to the dyno and pay for the time.

As to how much more exacting a dyno tune would be, I can't say. Rick would know the numbers on that.
Most, including me, will opt for the mail tune for ease and cost saving.

KGupton, do you work for Ford?

Mail order tune is cheaper. Somewhere in here Rick posted the dyno tune cost...I believe it's 700??? Don't quote me on that though

While we all want to save $$$ on fuel... and like it when we get reasonable #s for fuel mileage.... COME ON!!!! WE WOULD GIVE UP lots of MILEAGE for a few tenths at the strip!!!!!!

But.. I get about 19-20mpg with Torries boosted tune , up north, down south, and in between... better in warmer weather.

Now... for the Livernois tests! So far... only drove to a restaurant and back. Maybe 12 mi at casual speeds and throttle. Thing I did notice with stage 4, is that everything seems to work in harmony...

NO TOUCHY THROTTLE.... PERFECT SHIFTS... SOFT because we were driving normally... BUT EXACT WITHOUT ANY HESITATION!

Thought I was driving a LEXUS! SsMmOOOOtttHHHHHH!

LIFE.... IS GOOD! Now I need to go to the strip! :thankyou: :):):woo-hoo::dribble:

So....... I've decided to get the tune :hdance:

Emailed Rick today and he is sending me the tuner. I really can't wait to feel the difference that this will make. I love my sho, but after this tune I would like to REALLY love it!

Of course being able to really test it out will be impossible with the over 1 foot of snow that has fallen and -25 temperature that we currently have in Edmonton. :frown:

oh well, I'm still excited to get it!

Money well spent, you will love it and wonder why Ford didn't send the car from the factory this way. Sucks though that your in Edmonton with the snow. Think positive, summer will be there in 6-7 more months. ;)

lol, and gone again in 8-9.:p
You've got the right idea, Red: south for the winter.:)

Enjoy the tune, Zeus, as much as you can. At least you've got the SHO to install one into.......Mine still hasn't come yet.

On a less jovial note: at least you'll net a couple kpl with a tune. Sounds like it's good for a little extra kilometerage.;)

Let us know how the install goes.

C. (also stuck in the midst of winter)

It is cheaper but by no means is it not a great improvement. I don't think I've ever had a tune improve performance as much as the Livernois Stage 2. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the mail order tune is a great bargain at the price.

Great decision Zeus! I can't even begin to tell you how much better the car is since the tune. You will be amazed and love it. Those Livernois guys have done a great job!

Can anyone who has tried both elaborate on the practical real world difference between Stage 2 and Stage 3? I've reviewed all of the threads but haven't seen much in terms of performance difference between the two or driving characteristics.

I know that stage 3 has no torque management which I would assume might make it a little tougher on the drivetrain. Since my Gen 3 shredded the tranny after spending some considerable time with me this is somewhat of a concern.

Can anyone elaborate on 2 vs 3 for a daily driver?

Thanks all

I decided to run the Stage 2 on my car because of the reduced torque management, and it seems fine. I believe that Stage 2 and 3 are the same as far as engine settings, I think the only difference is that the Stage 3 does not have any torque management. Rick says the Stage 3 is a bit "harder" on the transmission. That being said Rick said that they have a lot of people who run the Stage 3 on the daily drivers and that they (Livernois) has not seen any transmission issues with the people running Stage 3. I'm sure if you ask Rick he can give you a more precise answer.

When we do a dyno tune, the technician has to charge time to adjust the front drum to the correct wheelbase length for the SHO and strap the car on the dyno. The tuner then spends quite a bit of time on the dyno.

The stage 2 and 3 tunes are identical, except the stage 2 has torque management and the stage 3 does not. They will make the same power on the dyno.

The Stage 2 has raised boost, increased timing, and transmission modifications with reduced torque management.

The Stage 3 has raised boost, increased timing, and transmission modifications with no torque management.

It is my understanding that torque management reduces engine power between shifts and makes the shift feel smoother. Reducing or removing it makes it shift firmer.

Thank you,

Rick

Rick if you don't mined me asking what psi of boost does the SHO run stock and what does the stage 2 raise it too?

Thanks for getting that in the mail so quick Rick! Normally I would have asked you to ship it the fastest way possible and paid extra so I could get it as soon as I could :dribble:, however the weather trend here is for snow and temperatures below -20 for the next 6-10 days so hopefully the tuner arrives when the weather breaks ;)
