That's probably cool how they just let the calipers hang down like that, I bet that won't hurt them or anything.

On a more serious note, I'm willing to bet that the intercooler was unable to handle the 100*+ temps and let the charge temp get too high. But that's just my uneducated, non-engineer guess. Cool that you got a new engine, though!

I really doubt it. When you look at the engine's operating temps, and the temp of the intake charge off the turbo, 101F is nothing.

Besides, the one thing that all of the mfrs do is serious (very) cold weather testing, as well as very hot weather testing. They are all over AZ and eastern CA around Death Valley in the summer.

You could run the car without the intercooler. Power would suck, but you could do it. The PCM can adjust for about any of these conditions.

Except when something screws up. A failing injector has more serious consequences in a forced induction engine.

I got one Porter has stock in and was triumphing the other day. :) Handheld that plugs into the OCDII port. It will record 10 or 12 parameters in real time on Genesis Coupe. Autel MaxiScan MS509

Mine "finally" showed up at home this past week, must have been on the slow boat from Singapore!!

In fact I have it right here next to me ready to pack in it's nifty box with the carry handle!

Glad to hear it works OK. I'll have to try it out on an OBD II car this week. Or compare it to the results from my AccessPort on the LGT.

How come all the pistons but one look like shit?

With that low of miles, I was wondering the same thing. Wonder what kind of fuel was being used during all those miles? My old 4.6L F-150 pistons didn't even look like that with 112,000 miles on 'em.

I constantly have a MSD DashHawk plugged in on my EB-Brick. Watch engine temp carefully - always sits within a couple degrees of 190. Can log other parameters. You can check out on DashHawk website. Also.... always run premium... and 93 if I can get it.

2010 Sho with 21k miles. Its not official, but i am going to be offered a 2011 engine block replacement. This is the first piston issue being reported (in the southeast) i am told by ford.

I echo zblackbeast:
I wonder if this is what they told the first 1000, or so, cam failures in the 90's.

Hey SHOsc, did Ford ask you any questions in regards to any mods on your car or did they just take it in without question? And I would have to agree with Hawkeye on his scenario of what may have happened. At least we are finally able to see one that has gone "Ka-Plunk." A sad site though nonetheless.

Id imagine most techs would ask but its not necessary. As has been mentioned before, they'll know when they get into the ECU. :)

Theres another thread about another GEN4 that had misfire issues , with possible bad spark plugs.

That would explain that.

I am more concerned about the value now?

why? its just a "lightly" blown engine, not like you had an oil fire clinging to the floor pan of the car.

and as long as its getting an all new block and not a piston swap like some mfg's like to do ...

All had less then 10k on them. Only good thing i can say is a 01 at 80mph into a car backing up on the highway, driver was able to get out and help put the flames out.

Do keep us posted - I've got just a hair over 11k on mine and we did an end of June trip through the South to Texas and back and the temps were over 100 and the SHO did beautifully.....

BUT last week when we had the 100's in the Norhteast I was coming home on the highway and up a slight incline when I heard what sounded like a hammer hitting the engine for a couple of seconds with a jerkiness. Then all smoothed out and has been fine ever since. Not sure if it was spark knock or what but I wonder if this is something bad...

Out of curiosity, are you running premium or mid-grade fuel?

Neither, I run what the engine requires, regular old 87. Ford indicates the engine will run fine on regular and may benefit from premium. So I save the $$ and run regular. She runs just fine on it.

I don't think 1 incident of engine failure is cause for concern. My previous car was a 2004 Infiniti G35. I remember reading of a few engine failures in the 2003 and 2004's. Stuff happens.

Good phucking god. Enough with the 89-95 V6 guys preaching in the Gen4 section. We know, you like your V6 NA engine. We know, you will ***** and complain about Ford needing to release a new SHO, then complain when they do that it is not a 89-95 V6 with a manual, even though you are not the target demographic because you are too po' to buy one.

Jesus, STFU and get out of this section if you hate the ecoSHO platform so much.

Running 87 you lose about 10hp. That will not blow your motor.
But why not run 93....14 gallons at 0.20 cents is only $2.80. But thats me.
