I pulled the starter from my 94 ATX this morning, and I rolled down the driver's window before getting dirty so I could test the starter and solenoid using the ignition without my seats ending up filthy. Now I have no electrical power anywhere.

The reason I believed the starter to be bad is that I was getting a single click when I turned the key to start, and the starter did not turn the engine over. Most likely the click sound was the solenoid of the starter -? Tried jump starting first to no avail. All fuses checked (and still check) out both under hood and under dash. All visible wiring is in good condition and the starter sees good voltage. So I figured the starter's toast. It looked like **** when I pulled it, covered about 1/2" thick with grime and the back side completely rusted.

I disconnected the negative battery terminal and all 3 of the electrical connections on the starter. Then after pulling the hardware out, I began to clean up and prepare for the trip to the parts store in my wife's car with my disgusting core to be replaced. So now I need to roll up the SHO's driver's window and lock the doors while I'm away from the apartment complex. Jump in, turn the key... and nothing. No lights, no chimes, no anything. Am I missing something obvious here?

Does the starter have to be wired for everything else to receive power? Seems odd to me...

Any response appreciated.

The starter is the common point for the battery cable. alternator output cable and the cable going to the under hood fuse box. Put a jumper wire between the battery pos post and the post on the end of the underhood fuse box. Then you will be able to run the windows up.

The negative cable from the battery is attached directly to the starter. The positive cable routes to the solenoid, with the other positive leads coming from that point.

Yea clamp the ground from the battery to the block / side of inspection area... around there.. good bite on it.. then run the positive from the battery to the cable laying there that goes up to that fuse box under the hood.

That nut is really tight in there and I can see you blowing up your battery or something tryin to wiggle it in there.. :) I seen a spark once when I tightened with a wrench.

I had a set of jumper cables with small jaws that I used. Positive to the bolt on the fuse box and negative to a bolt on the strut tower, worked perfectly. I thought about just putting a bolt through the positive leads that attach to the starter and grounding the starter ground on the block, but then realized how dangerous that might be dangling out in the windy weather.

On a side note the starter blew the circuit breaker for half the store when I had it on the tester at Advance tonight. Just thought that was a little amusing.
