Look at the image below and enlarge it to full-size.

The unit on top is a dealer warranty service replacement for/from a Lincoln Continental. Note the smaller border around the faceplate, as well as the later-style fan-speed wheel (ie. has "bumps" instead of grooves). You cannot see it in the image below, but while the display window is the same size, the "numbers" portion of the display that displays the inside/outside temperature is smaller than the OEM unit:

Th DSC01613

The bottom unit (above) is from a 1995 Sable wagon. It too is a service replacement unit, but it has the green (versus blue-green) display that was used in the 95 Taurus/Sable.

:burnout:

Coincidentally after reading this post and seeing the differences, I ran across one of those hard-button warranty replacement units (with the smaller number display) in a junked 93 LX wagon at the pick n' pull. I snatched it up for $10.

I would get the blower control module, when pulling any used EATC, especially the warranty service replacement units. In some instances, changing the BCM will clear problems that surfaces when installing a used EATC.

So, can you fill-in the following information on that EATC?

  • Engineering number (should begin with F5DF- and end with a four-letter suffix, such as -ECSR)

  • case housing color (black, yellow, beige, blue, gray, tan, etc.)

  • display color (green or blue)

Thank you for participating in this survey . . . .

I've found the housing color has nothing to do with anything. I have two, new in the Ford box 90-91 EATC's with two different colored housings, as well as 92-95 units. Din #'s are worthless, too. I've also seen casting numbers that are the same for multiple EATC's that go in other vehicles, as well. You can find tons of casting numbers on any given Ford EATC unit. I've sold over 500 new Ford EATC's to come to this conclusion, and I stand behind you on pulling the BCM with a used EATC because you might be in for a surprise if you don't...

Edit: I've also had the same SHO units have different sized display numbers, it had to deal with the production date. And, the **** wheels are different as well, it comes down to the manufacture date. I want to say once you hit 2002-up, you have the bump knobs. I can check into all of this with my units, if it's that serious. lol
