Eric is correct, the Locktite thing was not a formal Ford fix. And the two common fixes were welding and pinning, with Locktite not being anything 'approved'.
The Gen III is not going to take an 5 liter Mustangs of its day from a standing start, either. Yes, maybe when already rolling, depending on where in the curve they were at, but otherwise, the Mustang would be considerably quicker off the line.
And finally, its not the engine problem that did in the model, but rather its outright poor marketing. the engine problem was barely known during the car's actual production cycle, only becoming common knowledge well after production had ceased. Instead, Ford killed it by simply not bothering to market it even marginally well. Which was not an uncommon Ford problem of the time.
