Calculating it out, MT says the new one is $600 more than the 99 SHO adjusting for inflation. A very good deal, and can't think of another AWD sedan with as many features with as much power for the price. I would think the trans will be updated by 2011 model though to work out the poor programming issues.

From someone who has actually Driven the car....

1st - The BRAKES! These Brakes are great for the street - I've had no issues with them in the 3 days I've driven this car - However just to be up to industry standard BIG Beefy Rotors with 4 Piston Calipers should be standard.

2nd - The Steering - It's great, However I wish there was a little more feedback through the steering wheel.

3rd - The transmission - NOTHING - Drive one first folks before you knock it! It works GREAT.

4 - PRICE - I was able to option a SHO with NAV on their website for 37,000 Dollars - For what the car is that's not a bad price at all, However this isn't the Lincoln.

5 - Suspension - The ride on this car is wonderful, However I feel that there was no difference in the ride between a Full optioned Limited on 18'' wheels and a SHO on 20'' wheels. These means there is probably room for beefier suspension components without really degrading ride quality at all. While the SHO suspension is definitely tighter and more responsive then the Normal Taurus's, I Feel there is more room to work with it.

My impression of the car of this car after having logged plenty of Miles in is that Ford has done something wonderful here, Especially for the SHO name plate. I have two Friends driving these SHO's with me - One drives a Caymen S and the other a 400 HP Mach 1 - There opinions the first day was that the car was "Ok" - On day 3 they love it. They don't like how big it is by any means, But they both said if they had to have a 4 door, This would be it. Clearly, They are not 4 door people.

I know I'm a SHO Fanboy but I was every bit as weary as a lot folks are on the forum about this car until I drove one. I
absolutely love it and would drop coin on this car RIGHT NOW if I could.

EDIT -

I forgot to Add, The Looks! I love the sleeper aspect of the SHO as much as anyone else, But the only way you can tell a SHO is a SHO (Aside from the badges and dual Exhaust) is the rear spoiler and the wheels. Let's differentiate the car a little from the Normal Taurus. Give us SHO specific bumpers, Hoods...etc etc.

-Sam

1) Weight loss (stripper version)
2) Smaller wheels (so it doesn't cost a fortune for new tires)
3) Advertise the dam thing so that people know about the car.

i think ford needs to re-think the market place for the SHO despite what they think its not a high production-appeals to everyone kinda car. The Mustang in another words. They should rememeber what made the original gen 1 a hit..hot performance subtle sporty yet still sleeper look affordability. Its price now should not be compared to the slower selling Gen 3s..

Its nice to have all the options for heated and cooled seats and everything else, but honestly it just drives up the price and repair costs. I think the average SHO owner now..and prospective buyers are more concerned about perfomance and that sleeper/sporty look

A commercial or two to raise awareness. They had commercials for the old ones...

I'll let all of you duke it out for the top performance items. Aesthetically it should be a little more different in the looks department than the SLO. The first two Gens are perfect examples. I personally love the side skirts and the bumpers on the first Gen. The difference is astounding between the two, but only if you know what the other looks like. It is definitely more aggressive though.

I think the chrome should go. I don't like it. Someone should do a mockup and see if body colored grills actually looks good.

1a. Form follows function, lose the fake vents in the fender, OR make them actually vent something, engine? brakes? same with the led/fog light area, surround a real brake vent with the lights. I'm sure the headlights are good enough and that's why they are LEDs

2. "Leave the chrome at home" is what Andy said at the plant on opening day and I agree 110%.
I'd like to see the chrome and badges body colored, BUT!!! if more cost effective, how about a SHO specific smoked chrome, ooooooor the SHOCAGO edition only in Black (Sox) and Blue (Cubs) with smoked chrome.

3. I LOVE my current 93 WITHOUT sunroof, keypad, etc. A model with all the go go without the kitchen sink will put it within reach of more people.

4. The bigger brakes raised the cost to much the new stock SHO, I understand, just make an upgrade available that doesn't hurt the warranty like Cheby did at the dealer with the upgrades on the Slobalt SS.

5 A. Marketing!!! Leno took over for Carson by doing a burnout in his SHOGUN in Johnnys parking space.
Conan drove his SHO to Cali on his first night and did a whole bit on it.
How about a TV commercial with Conan hanging out with the Cali SHO guys and Leno rolls up in a 2010 SHO, full of hotties, and leaves Conan in a cloud of flying gravel or something, work with it.
5 B. You had a nice booth set up at Road America last year pulling the GT out for a lap between every race.
A parade of older SHO's (me me me, Adam, Ryan, Tony etc.) during the lunchtime cruise followed by the new one scraming up the hill at turn 5 would open some eyes. The people that pay $50/$60 a day to come to the Vintage race ARE your target demographic, as is the Northwoods Shelby club during a track day.
Again, Thank You!!!!

Paint the ground effects body color. So many vehicles, even ones costing upwards of $70,000 have grey, unpainted plastic exterior pieces. That's nasty, paint it BODY COLOR.

Like what others have said, unique SHO colors. Like Midnight Blue................. and (gasp) Deep Emerald Green. :rainshit:

Seriously, I can't think of any car that has that shade of green availible today, and even though there is alot of hate for that color around here, I think it would sho some good homage to the Gen II. The cost would be negligble (compared to brakes and transmision) because they already have the formula.

And paint the whole car (plastic and emblems) to give it that more wolf in sheeps clothing look.

I'm loving the ideas on here I hope ford is paying attention! I know they alll can't come true but if they change the 2011 Model they might be able to perfect it by 2011 or 2012! :)

Here is my list

#1 - Make all options available. I should be able to get the performance package and have my butt heated and cooled at the same time.

#2 - Definately make it stand out more from a standard Taurus. Nothing dramatic but there should be a "from across the parking lot" difference.

#3 - Make performance parts available. I hate how Ford nickels and dimes you to get the best out of a car but atleast there will be options. I am personally waiting to see what Hennessey Performance has in store.

#4 - Ramp up the marketing. More publicity means more potential buyers, which means more sales, which means more effort into making the SHO better, which means the car might become all it can be. The power of the media is undeniable.

#5 - Make a version with more power, more luxury, more gadgets. I would get it in a heartbeat. Call it the Interceptor or SHO Extreme or maybe not something that corny. You get my point.

I think Ford has done an excellent job with this new SHO. As stated before the brakes are excellent as they are. Unless you are taking it to a race track or you really drive crazy the brakes are fine. Stoplights and highway runs will be it's main claim to fame. This is actually a very fine automobile. Very nice interior. spacious, wonderful stereo and other tech gadgets. Excellent engine and drivetrain. What's not to like. No car has ever satisfied everyone but this one is really impressive. Can't wait for mine.

a small thing but I'd like the dual panel moonroof to be an option. You can get it on the MKS, and I realize it's kind of a luxury item but the Edge and Flex have it, and the Mustang has a glass roof. Dual panel would be really nice in a Taurus too :)

1. Bigger breaks

2. Manual Trans

3. Engine Cover

4. Make the performance package standard on all SHO's instead of it being an option

5. Advertise it more like you do with the Fusion and Fords other models. If no one knows the car exists selling numbers aren't going to be great. We don't want the SHO to fade away again like it did 10 years ago.

I should had put this in my first post, but

Dear Ford,

Please stop making your cars look Japanese. The headlights on the SHO look like an Acura, and rear clip of the Mustang looks like an infinity and I can't stand either. I am die hard Ford owning nothing but Fords my entire life, but the reason I am die hard is because of how you built automobiles. I like Fords for their more rugged/refined look and the boxier styling. Please bring back the 2009 mustang rear end, and take those stupid Acura looking headlights off the SHO and use the 2009 units.

P.S. I think the SHO concept off bringbackthesho.com looked pretty perfect, check out the headlights, that's what I want;)

1. A 3-pedal Stick Shift Option.

2-5 A Fusion Body.

that would make too much sense you realize..........

why build a performance car in a midsized car that most everyone looks at and buys when you can make a barge sized performance car to battle the best selling G8, the CTS-V and other large cars that have been selling like hot cakes?

How about chop about 6 inches or more out of the doors and mid section of the car, and lower the roof line and doors back to about gen 1 and 2 height.
