So I was driving down the freeway at about 70mph when fifth gear pops out and then I hear strange wirring sounds and I see smoke. I proceeded to pull over and turn the car off for fear of the unknown problem. The car came to a stop and I got out and saw that the underside was flowing some liquid which I believe was transmission fluid but I wasn't entirely sure. So I started the car and drove off the freeway and parked it. All five gears worked on the drive to the parking lot. So what happened there? The transmission is making little noises but is still running decently. Did I blow a seal or something? Could it have been oil? I haven't had a chance to jack it up yet and see the damage but I was wondering has this happened to anyone else?

Wow.

Until you actually get under there and locate the source of the leak, try searching the forum for:

diff pin

Because it sounds to me like you blew your diff. :frown:

Sounds like the dif to me too. Do not drive it again. You don't want to cook the internals with no fluid in there.

more than likely, you will need an entirely new tranny.

typically, when the diff blows, it destroys the tranny case.

Well I was wrong when I said that it may have been tranny fluid cause it definitely was oil. It was definitely a pin that broke and tore apart the transmission casing a bit. I had it explained to me that the pin was like a cotter pin. I'm assuming that's how it is, anyhow I need another tranny or some other way to reverse the damage. Perhaps the pin can be fixed and another tranny casing is available to purchase. So if anyone knows of a tranny case or a tranny for sale let me know immediately. Thanks.
