I am having a bad week with my SHO. First I discover the water pump is leaking now the transmission is shifting REALLY hard into 2nd and sorta hard into the other gears. Please someone tell me there is an easy fix and do not tell me what I am thinking you will. If the inevitable is true does anyone know of a good tranny shop in the Cleveland area?

Thanks
Matt

Well I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but if you tranny didn't shift hard and now it does it may be begining to tell you its gonna give out. But first service it change the filter and fluid, there is a magnet in the pan that will collect the metal shavings which will let you know if the tranny is shelling out, that alone may be the problem or it could simply be that the shift soleniod's are not operating correctly. Don't forget that the ATX has a history of hard shifting, so you there may be nothing wrong.

Hi there. Have you ever had any of your motor mounts replaced? If it seems to have just suddenly started you may have completely broken the front mount. I drove a local members car and it feels like the whole car shakes on the 1-2 shift. It's bad. Look into that too. Please let us know.

Is a broken mount visible or do you have to remove it first? If I do have to remove it how hard is it?

Well it depends which one it is. The only one that is relatively easy is the front one. The others are not very hard, but just a pain in the butt. Basically you want to get a 2X4 and a floor jack and jack the engine up under the oil pan. As you're doing this, look around for seperations on the motor mounts. You can also have a buddy put the car in drive, put one foot on the brake, and give it a bit of gas to see how much the engine is moving. If you've never done either of these before it really is best to bring it in as you won't know how much the engine is supposed to tilt in the first place.

My front mount was broken and I tested it by opening the hood, put the car in D or 1. Put the e-brake on, raise the rpms to about 1500 kinda quickly and watch the engine. If its broken the engine will tilt from the front to back. I didnt notice it was too much tilt until I looked at the intake tube. Moved so much it was kinked halfway. Its fixed my shifting for most part. I think I still need a shift kit or at least an LPM to change the shifting, or my tranny is on its way out. This on top of soo many more problems.
