I want to get a Y-pipe from SHO source but I do not know the difference between a catted one and a catless one. I mean I know one has catalytic converters and one doesn't, But does that mean one is better than the other ? One will last longer than the other? I would rather have more low end power keep in mind.
does anyone have experience with both on their cars?
If i'm going to pay the extra $130 for a Catted Y-pipe is it worth it?

I have never had any after market exhaust on any of my SHO's and I feel like i'm missing out with not having the high flow Y-pipe on my car.

Any feedback would be much appreciated thank you

I have the catted y-pipe on my SHO. Many who have installed the cat-less y-pipe has noted a loss in low rpm torque and increased amount of raspy noise from the exhaust. Since I have to pass smog, a catless y-pipe is not an option. If SHO Source sells a copy of the SHO Shop equal length y-pipe with the mandrel bends, that is the one I would go with. You assemble the y-pipe on your car for a custom fit with clamps. Later you can have it welded together.

Bob got most of the items. The pipes are the same just the cats. Its also a matter of if you want the rasp and can handle the smell (catless can tend to smell more).

Some love the catless for the top end.

if you have to smog then you need catted.

I recommend the catted equal-length... Gen 2's are no longer tested for emissions here in MA, but I would go with (and did go with) catted for rasp reduction and a stronger low end.

Removing the cats can can change the tuning of the system. So its not as much the choice of going catless as being the fault for loss of torque, but the tuning has been changed. More than likely a catless Y should be much smaller pipe diameter to achieve equal performance.

Thanks a lot for the quick responses. I want to buy that very shortly while I still have the money, and before I spend on something stupid. I will go with the catted pipe !!

You guys are a lot of help, way easier than a bad trial and error experience.
