While doing a few things on the 89,( rod bearings, y pipe, rod shifter), i broke the exhaust studs going to the manifolds. I dealt with the font manifold by removing it and doing some surgery. The big problem I have now is the rear manifold. One bolt is broken, and the other has lost most o its thread to rust. I have heated it and heated it with both propane and MAPP gas and the bolt that is broken just wont even grab with vice grips. I was going to try to at lease reuse the stud that is still coplete, but it wont grab. Im going to try to remove it but fingers crossed on it coming off. I need help. Big time help. Im in FL at my friends house. I need to leave tomorrow to go back home. My home happens to be Brooklyn, NY. I have a friend wih me and we both need to get home before monday. I need help real bad. Ive been at this project for 5 days now and I just want to drive my babe home. Please, can anyone help me out? Suggestions will be so appriciated. Thanks in advance..

OH you didn't know
You may need to drill it out and use a nut/bolt intead of a stud. I had to do this on my mustang and it worked out pretty good. Unless you have it towed to an exhaust shop.

thats what I did on the other manifold but I was able to remove the manifold which made it easier. The reat manifold is almost impossible to remove and the bolt arent broken flush to the manifold. Also, on the other manifold, We drilled and drilles and nothing. I ended up having to cut in from the side and kinda making my own hole.

Are you able to thread two nuts on it and try to remove the stud that way? You know...tighten the one nut against the other and then loosen hopefully removing the stud. If not, you may have to tow it to a shop.

problem resolved. The nearest muffler shop would not be able to even look at the car till monday. I decided to do whatever it took to take the rear manifold off and thats what I did. Took me some time since we all know how little space there is in there, but I did it. Thanks for all the help and a word to the wise... Titanium bits are great.

:thumb: I broke one of the rear studs about two years ago when installing my pp y-pipe, still haven't gotten around to fix it. I only broke the tip off of it, so there is still enough to where the clamp stays put.

i wish it would have only broken like that. I just used bolts this time instead of studs. I dont ever want to have to break a stud like that again.
